Zumwalt was a hero to enlisted men during the time I was in. I applaud naming it after him, and deplore the Obama Administration for its cutbacks in long-term military funding. Aircraft carriers can only take so many refittings before they must be retired. The same for lighter, more maneuverable destroyers...and instead of 22 they get only 3. This is shameful in light of recent Chinese buildup and Russian belligerence.

Prezactly!  And add to that hypersonic torpedoes which could be had by even little fish in the global theater, which have no effective countermeasures (I am aware of) and presumably could take out a large carrier or battleship.

Time to jettison the lunatic pacifist leftists and realize that everything is the opposite of what the leftists claim. For instance, one of the favorite lines of the leftists is "nothing ever got solved by violence". Maybe in the universe they inhabit, but in the real world, violence is the only thing that ever solved ANYTHING completely.

Sometimes violence must be applied surgically as part of consistent, effective foreign policy (remember when that was a description of US foreign policy?), other times by slavering it on thick with several coats. No despotic evil regime or militant movement ever voluntarily stopped their expansion. They are only ever stopped by someone else knocking the living snot out of them or obliterating them from existence.

In the real world, that takes a lot of blood sweat and investment of resources financial, material, logistic and intellectual.

The leftists also like to say that victory is achieved by the ones with better ideas. (rolls eyes) IDEAS??? For the love of God you idiots, IDEAS are inside your head!!! Unless they are realized, they are just as f-ing useless as any of the other dizzy, detached-from-reality thoughts in your stupid brain - like drawing Red Lines with disappearing ink.
All that did was make Vladimir Putin, Bashar al-Assad and every other tyrannical militant anti-Western dictator in the world laugh until they messed their drawers.

Yep.  And the thing is, of the millions of things our federal government is doing TO us, the Constitution spells out the very FEW things they are suppose to be doing FOR us.  Things like guaranteeing a republican form of government to states, protecting intellectual property or repelling invaders.  But primary among those duties is to MAINTAIN A NAVY!!!

There is a reason that the Constitution says that congress SHALL maintain a Navy and then says that the congress must renew funding for the Army every 2 years.  Our Navy IS our defense.  It's how the founders intended we defend our shores.  It's how we're suppose to maintain trade by protecting shipping.  It's how they intended we project influence to protect our citizens overseas.   The Navy IS and was always intended to be by the founders...our defensive force.  Not the Army.  They are primarily offensive forces and the founders knew it.  That's why the Constitution says funding for the Army must be justified by the voting to renew funding for it every 2 years.

So, for any president or congress to cut funding in a way that weakens the ONLY military force that our Constitution MANDATES be maintained...is a direct violation of their oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution to my way of thinking.

Just saying...

We need MORE of these kinds of tools.  Not less.
