Post by: Solar on November 07, 2017, 12:04:15 PM
Impressive indeed. Video at link.

The fastest car ever made: Koenigsegg reaches 284.5MPH in record-breaking run on dead straight Nevada road
Koenigsegg Agera RS smashed the record for the world's fastest production car
Clocked an average speed of 277.9mph over two runs through the Nevada desert
Hit a top speed of 284.5mph, which is the fastest a production car has ever gone
Previous record was set by a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport in 2010 at 267.8mph

This little bit would have been enough for me to walk away - naaaaaa!!!

QuoteWorryingly they are only guaranteed by Michelin up to 186mph, though Koenigsegg engineers were confident they would survive an extra 100mph on top of that.
Factory driver Niklas Lilja, who completed the run, said: 'I wasn't nervous. The only hesitation was over the tyres, as you always know that something could happen.

At that speed, I imagine those tires as hard as rock from the centrifugal force & bulging like a bicycle tire.   Nooooo thaaaanks!

Sounds like fun.
Turn up the sound, and listen.   I think it's a 7 speed gearbox.  He shifts into 7th at 210mph, (then 225 in other direction) and then winds it all the way up again.  Imagine a car with the top two gears worthless below 150 mph...

QuoteThe Agera is powered by an in-house developed 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which produces 701 kW (940 hp) at 6900 rpm and 1,100 N·m (810 lb·ft) of torque at 4000 rpm. Total weight of the engine is only 197 kg (434 lb) thanks to a carbon fibre inlet manifold and the aluminium construction.[6] The transmission is a specially developed 7-speed dual clutch with paddle shifters. It is the first dual clutch transmission to feature only one input shaft. The second clutch slows down the input shaft during up shifts in order to reduce the time it takes to synchronize the next gear, resulting in faster shift times. Most notably, the transmission weighs only 81 kg (179 lb)

810ft-lbs of torque, 940 horsepower...  Own one of these, and become the victim of constant sexual harassment from gold-diggers.
