8)   Why should we be the only one's.

I used to wonder if there were liberal aliens, but that wouldn't make sense if they were of higher intelligence.

When you consider that there are 100-300 BILLION stars (potential suns) in the Milky Way galaxy alone, TENS OF MILLIONS of which have captive planets, and that astronomers think there are HUNDREDS of BILLIONS MORE galaxies out there, it's easy to understand that the odds are very strong against us being alone in the universe.

When I think about such things, it isn't the numbers or the prospect of alien life that get to me. It's the distance. The very nearest star to us is Alpha Centauri, over 4 light-years away. Just one light-year is 5,878,499,810,000 miles. (Nearly 6 TRILLION.  :o)

Let's try to put that in perspective. In order to escape earth's gravity, a space vehicle has to reach a velocity of roughly 17,000 mph, around 4.7 miles/second -- about six times faster than the fastest rifle bullet. At that speed, a trip to Alpha Centauri would take about 170,000 years.

See? There it went again. My mind... Holy cowski! (Polish for "shit the bed and fall back in it.") That's a REALLY long time.  :P :P :P

Honestly, y'all, I think we're talking about numbers we can't even conceptualize...
