I just spent 60 bucks total for a Raspberry Pi, installed some free software and I'm set. I'll probably be cancelling my cable as well. I can't stand these stupid reality TV shows.

As I get more and more pissed at the NFL and NBA, the less reason I have for TV.  I've been watching 99% of my TV on Netflix lately...

I do agree that there are a lot of people turned off on TV for various reasons.

If you look at the Net worth of Hollyweirds finets and some of the popular stars it becomes or should become easy to conjure up the "Dump Trucks Full of Money" vision.

With most of the TV stations and print media laying off large chunks of their staff - it is no doubt unnerving for them.

My two daughters don't ever watch TV. They have one, but it's only used to watch Videos they rent. Their kids never watch the garbage on TV.

My neigbor just cancelled his subscription to Dish TV. They raised him another $5.00 last month. That's the second raise in about 10 months.  He is going basic.

I have basic (antenna feed) I watch Wheel Fortune, Mentalist and a couple of Law Order prog. Oh and Golf and Olympics when they are broadcast. Otherwise I actually don't watch it.

What has changed I think is several things.

1. There is a large number of options available as to how and what you want to entertain yourself with.
    a. There is almost an infinite number of Video games available - including online multiplayer.
    b. You have social network sites that a lot of people are invested in. Facebook, My Space, Twitter and others
    c. There is You Tube Videos and other similar sites.
    d. Thee are forrums like this, but forums exist for almost any subject.
    d. There is subscription online TV like Beck, Wimp and dozens of others.
    e. There is upgrading your skills, going to night school, learning a craft or taking lessons in something.

The younger age group are likely to have some kind of smart phone that enable them to access whatever they want when they want. Many people don't to sit in front of a TV with roots growing out of their rear end into the sofa seat.

There is very little quality on the TV.
In my entire life 
I watched 10-15 minutes of Seinfeld once and never watched it again.
2. I never watched one episode of West Wing with Marin  Sheen because I intensely disliked him.
3. I watched 5 minutes of Charlie Sheen and never watched it again.
4. I don't watch the cartoons American Dad, Simpsons, or the other adult cartoons.
5. I never watch Povich, Oprah, Degeneres, Jerry Springer, or most others.  The newest I don't watch is Steven & Chris which is two openly Gay guys (live together) who discuss and demo stuff. They must have bought part of the channed, as when I switch Channels they always seem to be on.

The Facts -
Today there are about a dozen shows today with Gays as essential stars.
Too many programs sex is the main attraction. It's not just sex - it's instant sex - no romance no courtship. Drugs and alcohol are essential parts of the program formula. There is no Morality, decency, mutual respect, ethics, or other desirable attributes.

The point is people have so many options that they have broad control over what they do.

What's on TV is mostly trash.

I find it incredible that most of our nation has been and is happy; slurping and gobbling trash and allowing themselves to be dumbed down and dumbed down and dumbed down. .

In Norway you pay TV licens for every tv screen you own. The total amount of taxes on this is $824,561,400 around $550 each individual.

This subsidize over 20,000 jobs in the former state media monopoly name NRK which in english I guess would be Norwegian Television Service or something. This monopoly was the reason why you Americans could choose from 100 of channels 30 years ago while Norwegians only had one channel, the state owned NRK channel. Even North Korea has 2 channels... Of course this channel is wholly consistent of communist and socialists. Thank God the Norwegian population is more right wing today than ever before in history.

But the Labor party wants to enact licens on computer screens and mobile phones as well, the reasoning is that today people can if they want watch NRK on computer/cellphone... That would mean every person would pay over $1650 every year just for having these products. That would be 4,7% of total brutto median income would be spent on a damn licence.

I only download series or watch series on DVD's but still I have to pay a licence for something I don't even use.

Zero-tv homes in Norway will only mean the government will enact new taxations.

That is interesting about Norway. The European continent has many laws I could most easily classify as BIZARRE.

Then there is the rest of the world that also has even more bizarre laws.

It would be very beneficial to the world if there was a Custom and law repository of all nations in which each law was compared with all the other nations so each resident of every nation could make a intelligent and meaningful comparison.

It certainly would be a poignant example of what political apathy will curse you with.
