So we have about two days before it hit us.

snip~
A cantankerous sunspot region erupted with a powerful X1.6-class solar flare at just the wrong time Wednesday. The blast was pointing right at us. That means any resulting outburst of electrically charged particles, known as a coronal mass ejection or CME, could have a disruptive effect.

Hmm gee wiz, that thing called the MAGNETOSPHERE must have done it's job yet again, and protected the Earth and all life on it from being fried.

Hell this didn't even produce aurora's more south/north than normal whats up with that?

Oh that's right, solar flare's DO NOT pose a serious risk to Earth at this stage of the solar lifespan.

So someone please tell the chickenlittle folks who run around screaming the sky is falling everytime the sun burps.

To call us in about six or seven billion years, when the Sun is older, and much crankier than it is now.
One of every five Americans you meet has a mental illness of some sort. Many, many, of our veteran's suffer from mental illness like PTSD now also. Help if ya can. :) http://www.projectsemicolon.org/share-your-story.html
And no you won't find my "story" there. They don't allow science fiction. :)

Just 100 years ago a solar flare was nothing more than a midnight showing by nature, but today it can be seen as devastating, because our grid system is built like a house of cards and a solar flare seen as a potential hurricane.

A solar-flare is stream of ionized particles acting along the principles of static-electricity, isn't it?

I invented a device called a dampening buoy that prevents electromagnetic gyro-engines from operating over private resorts like Golf Moon and Golf Moon 2.  So-called 'friendly' buoys (satellites) are launched inside their own hobartium anti-ionization bubble; immune from electromagnetic particle-storms, including the occasional solar-flare.

Yep, it's speculative-fiction, but you get the idea.  Earth satellites are 'naked' right now.  Anti-ionizing bars protect computer-printers against static-buildup.  Pretty soon we'll advance the tech to protect satellites.
