Pretty scary shit....

In the medium term, all of these various experimental and first-stage technologies will start to congeal into something familiar but bizarre.

Microsoft, Facebook, Google, and the Google-backed Magic Leap are all working to build standalone augmented-reality headsets, which project detailed 3D images straight into your eyes. Even Apple is rumored to be working on this.

Microsoft's Alex Kipman recently told Business Insider that augmented reality could flat-out replace the smartphone, the TV, and anything else with a screen. There's not much use for a separate device sitting in your pocket or on your entertainment centre if all your calls, chats, movies, and games are beamed into your eyes and overlaid on the world around you.

At the same time, gadgetry like the Amazon Echo or Apple's own AirPods become more and more important in this world. As artificial-intelligence systems like Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, Samsung's Bixby, and Microsoft's Cortana get smarter, there will be a rise not just in talking to computers but in having them talk back.

In other words, computers will hijack your senses, more so than they already do, with your sight and your hearing intermediated by technology. It's a little scary. Think of what Facebook glitches could mean in a world where it doesn't just control what you read on your phone but in what you see in the world around you.

The promise, though, is a world where real life and technology blend more seamlessly. The major tech companies promise that this future means a world of fewer technological distractions and more balance, as the physical and digital world become the same thing. You decide how you feel about that.

It gets even worse...

This Virtual Reality stuff is like Pornography.

I want the real thing, not retouched pictures, not robots, not movies, VR, or someone breathing heavily on t he phone, none of that.

I also want someone who knows what their doing, is spontaneous, and we know each other intimately.

My WIFE... is "perfect" in all respects, call it "Intimate Reality".

I suspect there will be a backlash against VR stuff.

holy crap! Cant' imagine how that's going to be like. I guess you could be talking to a person via these things and it looks like they're sitting right across from you. Like Google Hangouts in real life!

You're both right, and probably a nightmare to us old farts, 1984 on steroids.
Kiss any semblance of privacy good bye, if you are wanted for anything, even if you're not guilty, they can literally cull you from the herd, excommunicate you, punish those that help you, kill your income/banking.

This is what sooo many futurists warned us about, big brother, chip in the head!
It's time to write laws governing conglomerate monopolies. Think NSA and Windows, Smartgrid connectivity. The Fifth Element, only 100 times worse.
Here we have several corporations coming together to lay plans for our future, and guess who gets to pick the winners and losers?
Point being, unless you have lots of money, you aren't coming to the table, like Wall Street, where only a chosen few make all the money, while the rest peck the ground like hungry pigeons hoping to snag a morsel.
Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't.

Google Earth ended privacy.

Australia is sending up a multitude of LEO satellites for an Internet MESH network - what sounds like a wonderful idea, bringing Internet to everyone, everywhere, anytime ....  nothing is free.   They'll be too high to just shoot down with a rifle, but they'll capture and record everything, realtime... the good, the bad & the ugly.
