Recommendations For A Laptop
« on: August 03, 2017, 02:11:14 PM »
A lady friend who is in her 70's asked me to recommend a laptop computer for her that does the basic "stuff."

She doesn't do much on my computer when she uses it.
She is a complete novice and has no desire to do anything more than check email and play games!

When I say games, I don't mean "games" that gamers play!

She only plays card and board games that I purchased for her from Hoyle!
(Very resource light gaming)

She would like either a 2 in 1 touch screen or a simple touch screen .. whichever is the least expensive.

A mac is out of the question since I don't know, and can't teach her how to use it .. plus the mac is so much more money?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Thank You

Check Sams club auction or clearance site, even Bestbuy clearance, as well as Bestbuy online, but if she only needs the basics, just go to a box store and let her pick from what they have to offer, usually under $400.0 for a pretty good up to date laptop.

Given her age, she might want to look at a light weight tablet. Something with 64gb of ram should fill her needs since she doesn't download very much.

No crap ware installed and under $300.00. It has some good reviews.

Aren't those usually pretty small, like 10" screens?

Chromebooks are pretty cheap...

That's probably the best choice right there. Though I'd go with a cheap tower and a huge LED monitor for ease of viewing and standard keyboard.
But that's just me, I hate tiny keys and strained eyes. It makes the transition from straining my eyes to looking up from the keyboard to yell at someone or something to "Get the Hell off my damn lawn"!

All I can say is I have a Laptop 16" display.  I have a  27" curved monitor that I have added, and I shut off my 16" display.  I have the laptop as I can pick it and just go if needed.   I don't play games like Solar, but my next display will be around 50" so I can sit back with my feet up and read everything with out adjusting the size of print.

That's why I suggested a PC, she can have a full size keyboard and as big s monitor as she like, Hell, I have a 36" I use now, but once I move, I'll use the 70"Vizio TV instead.
I've been looking at those laser projectors, looks rather interesting, you could use an entire wall for a screen, though I hear there's an issue with lag time, which would drive me batty.
