Absolutely Amazing!

Quote
LOS ANGELES — Skydiver Luke Aikins has become the first person to jump from a plane into a net on the ground without the benefit of a parachute.

Aikins hit the 100-by-100-foot net perfectly, quickly climbed out of it and walked over to hug his wife, who had been watching with other family members.

Just before climbing into a plane to make the jump, Aikins said he had been ordered to wear a parachute but indicated he wouldn’t open it.

As the plane was climbing to 25,000 feet above the drop zone he said the requirement had been lifted and he took off the chute.

He fell for about two minutes, then flipped onto his back at the last second and landed perfectly to cheers from those gathered to watch.

Why was this moved.  He did not have to do this stunt to survive.  He Jump Out Of A Perfectly Good Plane for a television special on Fox.

I didn't move it, but if I had, it would have been to a new forum called "Darwin Award Wannabees"

I watched it yesterday on an UK site, and the storyteller was gushing over the jumpers bravery.
Bravery? Hell, he had a giant freakin net to catch him! More like stupid to me and I think most people that jump see it the same way.
They don't jump for the landing, they jump because of the freedom of floating back to earth.

I see this as the next bunji craze, where idiots set up nets and jump off cliffs, I also see the headlines of tomorrow.
Jumper misses net, multiple jumpers attempt record setting jump, key word "attempt" service this weekend.

Yeah, it was cool, in that he was the first to do it, had his 15 minutes, made the record books, but beyond that? Eh, the next guy will use those giant inflatable airbags and so on.
Wake me when they get to the wet sponge trick.
