Actually 7 is a good operating system, it may take some getting used to, but it's worth it in the long run.
I know you can ghost Ubuntu on your system, but maybe Taxed knows how to do it, that way you have both operating systems and won't have to delete 7.

I've actually been telling folks to not go to Ubuntu until they make the Windows emulator easier to work.  It is a pain in the ass....  So, I actually changed my tune.... :-P

Why don't you dual boot?

Sounds like you've got some technical chops so doing a dual-boot install shouldn't be a big deal. I've run a couple of different flavors of 'nix - Mint, Ubuntu, Knoppix, Puppy, Mandriva back when it was called "Mandrake" and one or two others - and all the more poplar ones are fairly easy to live with. If you don't want to do an install most of the big name distros support live versions that'll work from a USB stick. That's a bunch faster then a live CD and, of course, zero footprint.
