Library? Or have a family member that has a high speed connection do the download for you.
One family member, and he lives a mile from me.
I would do the library, but I don't want to pack the tower 20 miles to the library and I doubt they'd appreciate my 42" monitor taking up the table.

Nah, I'll do without, it's not that big of a deal.
If I had my way, I'd force Microshaft to support Win 98 Second edition again, then, I'd be happy..

Same here, and I've never had a single issue with it, except for the fact that they refuse to support it. :cursing:

Windows 7 is as far as I go, with b o in office and no laws put in place to keep MS BS off our computer.
If I can keep cloning the Windows XP drive running my work machine, I'd be a happy camper. Failing that, Win-7. Vista and that other annoyance, forget it.

Question for you Linux users. What is their recommended word processing program? Is it the same across all types of Linux builds? OpenOffice.org or something else? And specifically: does that program allow the item to be saved in .RTF (Rich Text Format)?

There are a couple of open source suites that offer compatibility with MS Office, Libre, Open Office, and WPS to name a few. RTF format may be spotty from what I've read.

Is windows 10 like the Mac software.
It tells you that I have not set up an I Tunes account. I have my music on MP3.
It's always trying to get you to buy something.

You will find 10 will track everything you do and will send it to MS.  Unless you shut something down.  MS is now a big brother to big brother in government with 10.

These are times of great opportunity for the open source movement. I produce credible pdfs with Scribid and a couple of others. Closing in on audio and video, but not quite there, yet.
People want a stand alone machine for production, as well as a cloud machine.
The next Steve Jobs or Bill Gates should come along.....any time now.

That's how mine is set up, but it matters not, Mocroshaft still does as it pleases, such as that annoyong Win 10 icon forcing you to either accept the upgrade or live with the open wound.
I had, what would appear to be a tight leash around it's throat, yet it still installed that shit, a POS I'll never use, because to attain it, would be a bandwidth killing download.

I loathe Microshit for pulling that crap, wish I could somehow retaliate outside of a new operating system.
Solar that annoying Win 10 Icon, uses up bandwidth too. Yep, just sitting there, without accepting the update the damn thing still uses a few hundred kb of bandwidth per second.

Why a program, that is doing nothing but sitting idle should be using bandwidth like that is beyond me, and leads me to think it's doing more than just sitting idle.

The file name is GWX (get windows ten). If anyone knows how to permanently get rid of the little s.o.b. by all means throw me a bone and let me know as I've tried to get rid of it every way I know how and it always comes back after about twenty mins.
One of every five Americans you meet has a mental illness of some sort. Many, many, of our veteran's suffer from mental illness like PTSD now also. Help if ya can. :) http://www.projectsemicolon.org/share-your-story.html
And no you won't find my "story" there. They don't allow science fiction. :)

I use LibreOffice Writer.  I really like it.  Yes, it can do RTF.  You can open MS Word docs and anything halfway popular.

Yes, I did get rid of it, but it requires rewriting the directory.
I wish I could remember how I did it, but if you search for Rewriting directory Win10 icon removal, you'll probably find it.

The big push for cloud computing / storage is gathering steam.
I don't know HOW exactly it'll be sold, or if we'll get some 'upgrade' that will hobble non-web based applications - punish those that are not web-tied with poorer performance..?

I get this feeling Win 10 is the carrot n stick ...  :sneaky:
