This is making me feel old.  In my mind, Linux just came out.  I (we, the company I worked for) didn't start getting heavy in Linux until around 1995 or 1996.  I certainly wouldn't have had the life I did without Linux, since it opened up a lot of opportunities.  Or, maybe I would have, but it would have been harder.

Gotta love it. Gnu, bash, gcc, minix... I like the idea of open-source software, but why does Linux require learning a new language? Over the years, through all the releases, that basic principle hasn't changed much at all -- learn the language or leave. By and large, Windows/Microsoft OSes have gone exactly the opposite direction, toward making what's happening inside the box understandable, or at least more accessible without learning a new tongue.

I guess in my mind, Photoshop will always make more sense than GIMP. The former tells me I can work on my photos; the latter sounds as though it's going to limp across my screen and probably fall down before I even get to see one of my photos.

Well, anyways, congratulations, I suppose. Happy birthday? WAY TO GO, LINUS!!!
