Man charged after shooting down drone

Posted: Jul 29, 2015 5:16 PM CEST By Katie Bauer

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man is facing charges after he used a shotgun to shoot down a drone.

While officers say they can understand Merideth's concern for privacy, they stand behind the charges.

Another reason I'm glad we live rural.

Prying eyes. As an adult I never lived in a city, per se, but I have resided in some well populated 'townships' over the years. It was bad even there with nosey neighbors being a real pain in the ass. They knew more about your comings and goings than you did.

Read the story. The drone operators should be charged. Damn perverts.

This whole drone evolution is a lawyer's dream. It is going to take hundreds of lawsuits to develop some case law concerning drones.

Stupid on his part, should have called the cops and had the drone operators arrested. I wouldn't want this idiot living next to me raining down buckshot and endangering my household or others. If he was living out in my neck of the woods that would be different, I'd probably have joined him in taking a few shots myself.

Totally agree. Acted without 'thinking'.

I think those people should have asked for permission to fly the drone over his property to take pictures of a friend's home, I am sure he would allow them if he knew what they were doing.

Imo, he knew exactly what they we're doing if he had time enough to go get his shotgun, come back, and the drone was still there eyeballing his daughters. '
'Just flying the drone to take pictures of a friend's house'.....my ass you were. Like Billy said, the guy handled it all wrong. He should have called the cops instead of blasting away at the drone.

I'm no engineer, but it seems eminently feasible to construct a simple transmitter which would blank-out anything that spy camera picks up and transmits to an earthbound source. Once that frequency is determined, jamming would be easy and directional, using existing materials.

I sympathisize with the guy.  I mean, I'd shoot down any drone looking over my fence, too.  And you don't have to be doing anything wrong.  Private is PRIVATE and this in an invasion of that, imho
