Title: Flat Earth
Post by: Hoofer on April 25, 2017, 07:26:27 AM
Maybe this belongs in the RELIGIOUS section, but... they call it science.

https://www.worldcrunch.com/culture-society/is-the-world-flat-again-how-an-old-debate-was-revived-in-tunisia

QuoteA Tunisian doctoral student has joined several poorly informed American celebrities in reopening the question of whether the Earth is flat or round.

Poorly informed "American Celebrities"...?   that's being redundant, right?   Sure, let's bring back ALAR and DDT discussions..

QuoteIn short, her thesis was that the Earth is flat. She has gone to great lengths to refute the theories of Newton, Kepler and Einstein, whose work apparently had serious flaws that others have failed to see over the past several centuries. The doctoral student puts forth a new vision of kinetics that, instead, conforms to the verses of the Koran.

She was quoted in the French-language magazine Jeune Afrique as having written that "'all the data and the physical, religious arguments have made it possible to demonstrate the central position, the fixation and the flattening of the surface of the Earth, the revolution of the Sun and the Moon around it.' She then argued that 'the stars ... have three roles: to be scenery in the sky; to stone the devils and as signs to guide the creatures in the darkness of the Earth.'"

This is a JOKE... right?   This can't be serious, can it?   Doesn't the dig, "flat-earther" suggest you're superstitious, easily persuaded by faulty arguments and borders on being a cult follower?

Being an avid HAM radio operator, I completely depend on the Ionosphere surrounding a 'globe' for long range communications, I've even heard my 'echo' coming back around the earth - what are they going to say, "the signal bounced off a star????"

When I surf fish at the Atlantic ocean, I see ships gradually appearing and disappearing over / under the horizon.  I see the sun rise and set (when it's not cloudy), same with the moon.  I've driven across Nebraska, a miserable trip across some of the longest, straight & flat areas (yes worse than Texas or Kansas), and for the life of me, I couldn't see from one end of the state to the other - it's gotta be curved.

In Iceland they have near continual darkness in December, and near 24hrs of sunlight in June - what possible SHAPE could the earth have, besides a round globe?

This has GOT to be a joke.  Fake news, whatever.

It should be in the "Nut House" section.

Silly neophyte, it didn't go "Around" the earth, it bounced off the other end of the atmosphere.
How could it possibly go around something that is flat?
Look up at the moon, is it not round and flat as well?

You can even go to the Flat Earthers website and they'll tell you people that actually believe the earth is flat, are generally excommunicated from the forum. Even they don't hold onto this BS of a flat earth.
I think you're right, only an idiot Muscum could believe such nonsense.

Well, if the earth is FLAT, what's on the bottom side?

What if the Astronauts who landed on the moon, accidentally went to the wrong side, bottom side and tried to land there?  Wouldn't the gravitational pull be just as great on the bottom as the top?  What about the edges, with the greater "mass" in alignment, would the gravitational pull be tremendous in that region?  If the sun rotates around the earth, how does it every get "dark" at night?  Do people live on the underside of the flat earth too?  How do the planets rotate around the Earth...?  How do we experience "seasonal changes" if the Earth is flat?

This flat earth stuff raises more questions than it settles!

You need to ask the little fat boy as they have been on the back side of the sun.

I always ask them, if the earth is flat, how thick is it? Is it a thin crust pizza, or is it as thick as it is wide, and why can't we repel off the edge?
You're right, explaining why it's round is so much easier, like how water is spherical in space, as is virtually every free floating mass in space.

Ah-HA!!!   Fracking doesn't work, it's a ruse - we're drilling into cars and trucks' gas tanks on the underside...!?

Is the property tax cheaper down on the underside?

The International Space Station sees proof every single hour of every single day that we do not have a two-dimensional planet.

No, it's a govt plot, they use fisheye lenses in all their satellites, creating the illusion of round.

No, no, no, no, they aim the lens away from the alien spacecraft! Do get it right!

Matters not, it's all an illusion anyway, we never went to the moon, we never even broke the atmosphere, those aren't even satellite pics, they are all computer generated images designed to keep alive their lies of space travel. Aliens don't want us leaving and discovering the truth.
All govt's are involved, it's a way to scam taxpayers out of more and more money to feed the fat cats.

Oh, and the aliens won't let us leave the planet anyway, it was they who concocted the whole scam in the first place to keep us complacent and keep feeding them our personal waste, yes, our refuse is considered a delicacy throughout the universe, moon people love it, Mars went to war with Uranus over earth.

It's no different than us propagating plant matter for our survival. That's right, fruit is essentially poop.

Who'd a thunk it?

Oh. You mean the flat Earth troops? Literalists who believe only what they can see. Not very bright literalists, but bless their hearts, they do mean well.....
