New lab working on security shoe sole to ID people.

PITTSBURGH — High-tech security? Forget those irksome digital eye scans. Meet the biometric shoe.

A new lab is working to perfect special shoe insoles that can help monitor access to high-security areas, like nuclear power plants or special military bases.

The concept is based on research that shows each person has unique feet, and ways of walking. Sensors in the bio-soles check the pressure of feet, monitor gait, and use a microcomputer to compare the patterns to a master file for that person. If the patterns match the bio-soles go to sleep. If they don't, a wireless alarm message can go out.

"It's part of a shoe that you don't have to think about," said Marios Savvides, head of Carnegie Mellon University's new Pedo-Biometrics Lab, in Pittsburgh.

Does this mean we can expect some new movies, where the bad guys cut off people's feet, instead of cutting off fingers or gouging out eyeballs?

The last movie I saw in a theatre was Avatar...............and it sucked. The one before that, was the first Matrix. That was cool.

I don't even know who the popular people are anymore. I guess I don't care.

Lady Gaga looks like something I would use for target practice.

The last movie I saw in a theatre was around 25 years ago.  People were so loud and rude we couldn't not hear the last three moves.   So that was the last time for us.  The VCR and DVD are the only way for us.

Same here, I think the last movie I saw in a theater was the first Superman with Reeves back in the 70s.
If I wanted to watch a movie with a bunch of rude obnoxious people, I'd invite a bunch of libs over.

Not to mention, a first run movie for two people, along with a few snacks and drinks, will just about eat up a $50 bill. I already know there's nothing out there worth that kind of money. I'd rather take the wife out to a fancy dinner.

I hate crowds anyway, so the incentive to enter a crowded theater is more torture than entertainment in my book.

I am lucky, my wife does not like going out to dinner even.  She tells me for the cost we can get 2 one year old DVD's and have  at home.   If there good we will keep them if not we can trade them off the two we don't have.

We don't go out much either. I'm the cook around here, and I can do a better job than most of the restaurants.

I'd be fine if I never had to leave the yard. I gotta take her out once in awhile, just to keep the peace.
