Long, interesting article.  Starts with monitoring soldier's stress levels, up close, then from a distance using IR cameras.
They also speculate on triggering responses per your Geno-type, turning on or off bio-responses ie., to potential chemical attacks.

Spook stuff...   not treating the kids with chemicals, like LSD, but more of the measuring & collecting biometric data, and converting that into something usable.   Imagine a LEO (low earth orbit) Satellite detecting the enemy is at a particular stress/fatigue level that makes them less prone to perform/react at a high level, or less likely to react aggressively to certain environments.   The answer might be to counter-attack using custom tailored "modes" of "confusion" or methods that would most likely insure success.

Translate this kind of methodology into the everyday work world ... could give your "boss" an added edge to increase your productivity.  meh - imagine that!  He/she gets a computer alert you want to give them the "you're number ONE" with the second finger - they send a "calming & compliance" program into your biometric office chair, keyboard or monitor.   Instead you smile & say, "yessir!"

You meet some hot chick at a local watering hole, she's new in town.   Within minutes, you have this irresistible urge to buy her something from an online-store website you've never visited, and give her every dollar from your wallet.  1/2hr after she's long gone, you feel like you've been in a trance, and try to put the pieces back together, realizing you've been robbed, have memories of a wild sexual romp, but never left your bar stool.

A dairy farm looking for ways to increase milk production, stimulates the cows into thinking they have twins, causing them to eat and produce milk in volumes you could only dream of.  A chicken farmer, paid-by-the-egg finds out he can double or triple egg laying by altering the mood of the hens.  A police dog using enhanced search/tracking techniques is able to apprehend a criminal trying to blend into a crowed subway station - he is "taken down" and lead-by-the-hand back to the police station by the dog, clamped to his wrist.

Like I said, it's an interesting read, where it'll go...    who knows, maybe just another movie.
All animals are created equal; Some just take longer to cook.   Survival is keeping an eye on those around you...

The cow/milk thing is real, that's why the fuss over hormones, or the stink over GMO's over the last 20 years.
I read a similar article talking about tomorrow's soldier having a chip/ brain link as well as the drug thing you mentioned, essentially allowing them communication with other troops in the field and satellite linked back to headquarters, where some officer sits on his fat ass in an air conditioned room sipping coffee.

Only to read another article explaining how a foot soldier will become outdated within a couple of decades because of drone tech, from huge drones to one's the size of a bumble bee with a dart.
For me, the latter is far scarier, because the human entity disappears. Whereby the drone is controlled by a program from what amounts to as another drone with a set program for crowd control.

In other words, you can reason with an individual soldier and plea to his humanity, but not to a drone disconnected several leaps from the human controlling dozens, if not thousands of drones in the field.
I used to love this stuff, but the older I get the more I distrust those in charge of our Military, especially after the damage done to the culture of our military and the Marxist need to destroy its moral structure, it's morale in pushing a leftist social structure of sexual perversion and forced acceptance of anything to the anthesis of its Millennia of proven structure.

..and every path that takes humanity out of the decision making, looks rather >bleak<
Remember when Computer Chess was pretty much a joke, or those AI programs were just spitting back pre-recorded lines - rather humorously?   I hate to think about it - we're being sold "control" under the auspices of "coordination" and a "value" will be placed on every human life - not based on future potential, but on past performance.   In that sense, I would have been "culled" my Freshman year of High School, because I was one of those, "He'll never amount to anything - types."  Funny thing is, once I got away from the constraints of group-think, my imagination was free to develop some rather profitable business ideas.  The "human factor" as it's called, is unpredictable.

Whenever I hear "think outside the box", I'm reminded of the Colonists waging war against the Red Coats.   They marched in straight lines, tight formations, and fired weapons on command.  Only when utter carnage & death lay all around them, were they 'allowed' to fend for themselves, 'kill or be killed', do whatever it took to survive.   Meanwhile, the Colonists, outnumbered & outgunned, hiding behind the rocks & trees, aimed for the British leaders & commanders.   Take away the brains of the operation, and the soldiers will either think for themselves or be slaughtered like chickens.

IMO concentrating 100% of the decisions to one person / entity, is like painting a target, "strike HERE first", or at least cut off the communications to/from the leadership.   While we're all for improving performance, does it always have to come with the desire for tighter command and control?   Give plenty of information and teach/train strategy, encourage innovation and see if that doesn't yield better results.

Think Star Trek Socialist Directive, where the needs of the many, out weigh the few.
That will be the programmed reasoning for an AI, you can count on it.

I say screw it, fighting as we age just doesn't bear the fruit it used to, I have neither the speed nor the stamina to conduct a successful campaign, which is why I'm bailing on Ca.
So here's my answer, regroup and fortify. I may be buying this piece, the other is literally on the Montana/Canadian border, just not as large a piece of land.

Yes, I'm very serious about buying it, I'll know in a couple of months. Screw Ca, I'm done with these Marxists.

-COLD- Climate!   As a former Wisconsin resident of 42 years ... Virginia climate is quite nice by comparison.  The politics are better, but, nothing near what I'd prefer.   That price sounds a bit high for rural mountainous land.   We got 80 acres for sale near here @ $118, which is gently rolling hills and quite tilliable, by comparison.   We have an old friend who left Milwaukee, WI for the northernmost part of Wyoming, and other than the inability to find a "close retirement job" - and "incredibly F---ing COLD wind"... he loves it.  ...so, like my brother in Florida useto during WI blizzards & extreme cold snaps - I sent him a picture of me plowing a field on New Years Day, in a tee-shirt.  :ttoung:  What are friends for, beside harassing you during a moment of distress.... "Yeah, man, it sure SUCKS to be YOU!...  hang on... need more ICE in my Tea."

One, and just one of my concerns is by creating uniformity via group think & centralized control, people QUIT using their imagination and innovation grinds to a halt.  The stuff that makes this nation great is cast aside by the know-it-all narrow-minded Socialists & Maxists who think Utopia is just around the corner, if we'd all participate.   Individuality and freedom of conscience is the enemy, completely upside down to what made America great.

Mark Zuckerberg as an example, came up with an idea where people would be able to easily post (crap) about themselves to their friends.   That's an innovative idea.  Now that his idea was successful, he reverses, and wants to create a "livable wage" or "guaranteed income" for everyone, as if that'll make *anybody* happier... sure, for 10min, until we see the laziness is as profitable as hard work.
The vacuum was invented because cleaning rugs was hard work & some individual(s) used their noggins to come up with better methods.
Take away the independence of people, strive for uniformity, and we look like the British soldier, wearing red, marching in formation to a slaughter.

OK, so they create or improve a teenager and create the "perfect soldier".   When he/she turns 45-50 and says, "I'm done with this military stuff, I wanna do something else, get married, live a normal life in ONE PLACE and raise a family."   Pull the plug on 'em?

For me, living in pasture land and rolling hills for endless miles is simply boring and an easy target for a nut with a gun or..., while the forest offers challenges as in survival from predators as well as privacy.
Timber is a product, the parcel I posted hasn't been logged in decades and could bring a profit of as much as $100 thousand, assuming I wanted to clear cut my entire investment, but I could log a portion if necessary, the other thing is food is readily abundant, from fish to game, it's right off the back step.
Cold I love, it's also an in an insurance policy against city dwellers escaping whatever mess they created, they simply can't survive in an environment they're not prepared for.
There;s just something about ripping through the forest on a quad or side by side knowing you're the only person around for miles and no one can find you, as opposed to open grazing lands like those of Wyoming, not to mention the dry air, I despise heat and humidity.
Also, the land offers amazingly clean water from an abundant supply of springs on the land in addition of rivers.

No, if you look for land, you'll find anywhere in the Northwest that has heavy forest, the price for an acre is usually well over a grand, or in some cases, which I found in abundance, an acre divided amongst 10 dwellings along a creek or lake can bring 100 times that amount per tiny parcel.
If the desert had water, I'd choose it over the forest probably because of its dryness.

I guess for me, it's all about privacy, the more private, the more secure in knowing the govt can't spy on me and my life, another upside to living off the grid.
Oh, while looking for land, I found what I assumed to be a remote location in the forest about 20 miles from the nearest town, but when I looked under utilities, I saw listed, "High speed internet access".
I thought it a typo, but after talking to an agent, she explained the USFS has outposts throughout the Northwest in the form of tiny ranger stations and all are wired for DSL or something similar.
You see, if you live landlocked by govt forest land, you have to trench underground for power, no overhead lines allowed due to fire, but phone lines are allowed.
That cracked me up, because here in Ca. as connected as this state is, us rural survivors have only satellite as a recourse to that of dial up.
