Oh wow, I now remember the TIs.  I remember one of those in elementary school.  Now that I think about it, I think that is the first computer I ever saw.

TRS-80! Wow.  Do you remember the Amiga?

Oh yeah. I never owned one -- they were pretty expensive. (I want to say the first model, the Amiga 1000 was well over $1,000 in the mid 1980s, a hell of a chunk of money in those days, when my pre-tax salary was around $15K.) They were originally marketed as home gaming computers, but they were actually fairly specialized for high-end (for the day) digital graphics and sound, and even the software that ran on them -- and ONLY on them -- was quite pricey. They continued being used even after CBM stopped making and supporting them because there was nothing else on the market to replace them for years. The Amiga was the first competent multimedia computer, actually the only one for many years.

Commodore also tried to break into the PC-clone market with a unit called the Colt. It was a pretty run-of-the-mill clone and didn't stick around long.
