This site offers a great way to keep the vast majority of browser ads from appearing in your browser pages.  It offers a replacement Hosts file that you copy to your computer and re-directs hundreds of url's used by add trackers, 3rd party ad services, etc. to http://localhost -- they never load.

I have been using this for 15 years and it works great, and its free!
