QuoteAn inferno which engulfed a tower block, killing at least 12 in what could become one of the biggest fire tragedies in British history, was a "disaster waiting to happen", experts have said.

Fears were raised that green energy concerns were prioritised ahead of safety as it emerged that cladding used to make the building more sustainable could have accelerated the fire.

12 people were incinerated.

QuoteA total of 74 people were being treated in hospitals, with 20 of them in a critical condition after the fire, thought to have been sparked by a faulty refrigerator, started just after 1am on Wednesday and quickly spreading up the building.

About 100 people are unaccounted for.  The death toll is still rising.  Where's the building inspector to signed off on this?  A single stairway for a 24 story building?   Can you find -anywhere- in building codes where this would pass inspection in the last 50 years?  Back in the 1960's, every space was required to have two means of egress (exits).  A window on the 20th floor doesn't cut it.

QuoteExperts said that the cladding - which is used to insulate the building - had acted like a "chimney" for the flames by allowing the fire to spread upwards through the gaps between the cladding and the building walls.
....
Alongside the cosmetic appeal of cladding, it is used as an insulation to make buildings more sustainable to meet green energy requirements

In the wind energy business, grease a few falcons, bald eagles, MEH... it's to save the earth.
In the eco-friendly business, grease a few people, meh, we're over populating the earth and destroying it.
Scientific excursion to Arctic waters to prove global warming - turned around because of excessive Sea Ice.
One catastropic  disaster after another - Safety cast aside for Global Warming, and no mention of the tremendous amounts of pollution creating these materials, or the toxic pollution when they burn down.

Clean Coal is cheaper and safer, 100% natural, renewable and we have it in abundance.

QuoteThe director of the company, Ray Bailey, who has since started a new firm Harley Facades Limited, said that they had used a common Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) panels which are a commonly used product in the refurbishment industry.

Ie., Insulated aluminum panels.  Spaced off the building, creating an insulated chimney.  In the name of conserving energy, safe engineering practices were cast aside.  I cannot find anything about smoke detectors, fire stops or sprinklers.   Again, where's the building inspector who signed off on this?   Where's the architectural engineer came up with this, or city engineer who approved this?  All this went through a city approval process, who is questioning those people who thought safety was -meh- and signed off on this project?

Another common practice, super-insulation, wrapping the houses in plastic, inside and out - creating the environment for the growth of mold & trapping toxic gasses inside the home.  That creates another industry & device, Air Exchangers, effectiveness, which is still questionable - compared to opening windows.

To reduce our usage of Oil, we take food like Corn, ferment it, and mix it with gasoline, creating a less efficient fuel, consuming more energy to produce, with less BTU output - and artificially raising the price of food stocks across the planet, thus starving poor countries.  To make sure the Ethanol producers don't go broke, we subsidize the process... and give away billions to starving countries.  Damn the economics of it, we'll raise taxes!

There seems to be a rather obvious common thread in the Eco-friendly, green energy industry.
Safety of people, plants & animals is far less important than reducing the energy footprint, -and- it cost more energy, resources & ultimately pollutes more, than just making use of the off-the-shelf materials & fuels.
All animals are created equal; Some just take longer to cook.   Survival is keeping an eye on those around you...
