An incredible video on how Curiosity gets from the tip of Mars' atmosphere to the surface.

No problem, we can't build everything.
But just the computer and mathematics involved blows my old mind.

I can't believe Obama is injecting himself in the middle of this.  Is he not ending this space exploration?

Yep, fun and a well deserved pride of accomplishment.

I wonder just how much more ground this rover will cover compared to it's older siblings?

As I understand it, the wheels themselves are larger than the previous rover.  Also, it's nuclear powered, versus solar powered, where the rover had to go to sleep during sun down, and the dust kept covering the panels.  It also couldn't go into caverns, etc.

I have been a nerd listening to this, and one guy said this rover will probably be scouting by the time we send humans to Mars.

Holy Crap! I can't believe they were allowed to go nuke, NASA has caved to the envirofreaks for so long now, that I thought they'd never do the smart thing.
That is excellent news, this thing could run a hundred year.

Yeah, they were saying 140 years or something crazy like that...

If this was left up to libs, they couldn't get a bottle rocket launched... they would be weighed down by affirmative action, unions, and nuclear would be out of the question...

They could always send up wind turbines, a monstrous solar array with a 12 mile long extension cord.

If Henry Ford had to deal with the Democratic party of today, we would still be riding in horse draw...
Wait, horses put out too much Co2, so we'd be using rickshaws and people power.

I wonder how they were able to trick the idiots into believing this rover really wasn't nuclear powered?
They killed other missions in the past for this very same reason.

I was listening to one guy on the radio close to the mission, and he said Holdren (who was in the middle of it during the celebration getting all the glory with Charles Bolden, the guy who said NASA's objective is to befriend the muslim world) is no fan of the space program, and they are thankful it started when it did under Bush, because Obama would have shut it down with the other projects.

I suspected as much, but Hussein will still take the credit. :glare:

Yeah, it was a panorama shot, and shrinking it destroys it.
