I slept through a 6 once. .  Guess they've got to get bigger to get my attention.
The danger to America is not Barack Obama but the citizens capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency.

Me too. We went to Santa Cruz to party, got shit faced, woke up in the morning, everyone on the floor, the room a mess, only problem, we didn't party in the room.
Still dazed and confused as to why we were all on the floor and not in the beds, where we started.
We went outside where the motel manager asked if we enjoyed the quake. Quake, what quake?

That's bad, really bad.  That one was 7.2.

The one I remember the most was a 5.9 in Whittier, east of L.A.  It seemed to just keep going and going.

I was in one in SF while touring on my bicycle, I was doing about 50 MPH down a hill when a 6+ hit.
Suddenly I was all over the road, no control whatsoever, drifting between oncoming traffic, I thought I'd had double blowouts, after missing several cars by pure luck, I got stopped when I got knocked into a ditch by the last shock from the quake.
Don't much care for them, but I'll take them over a forest fire any day. :scared:

We were on the 15 overpass to the 91 fwy when a 6.5 hit in Big Bear.  That was scary as we were so high up and suspended while it was swaying.  That was after the 7.3 Landers quake.  I was still in bed when that one hit and just stayed there until the room quit rolling around.

That must been scary as Hell.... :scared:
I don't mind the quakes up here in the Sierra, since most, they recently run East to West under the Sierra, and since it's solid rock, it doesn't really move much, more like a giant vibrator shaking the place, no rolling, just a huge buzz.
But they all sound the same, like a freight train coming really fast before it hits.

Or tornados, I have been through 4 earthquake.

What I call earthquakes that you ride out.

November 13, 1939     5.75

April 13, 1949              6.7

April 29, 1965              6.7

February 28, 2001        6.8

That's pretty much what you do, is ride them out.

Everyone freaks out about earthquakes, but I would think being hit by a tornado or trapped by fire would be much worse.

The only quake I've been through was a small one in Atlanta back in 2003.  I was asleep then sort of started waking up as my bed shook.  It was that time when you wake up but your dream is still fresh, so you have to take a second to figure out what's happening.  At first it felt like someone was in my bed, like a crazed intruder or something, then my screen saver on my laptop went off, so I knew it was something else.  Something fell off my dresser too, like my watch or something.  Then I turned on the radio and they were talking about it and it was over, so I just went back to sleep.  I can't imagine a big earth quake.  That's one natural disaster I don't want to get caught in.  I don't think you get a lot of lead time on those.

ROTFLMAF  There is NO lead time.  It starts and just get bigger and bigger.  Then you have the aftershocks to put up with.

Exactly.  On tornados, you can look in the sky and say "Oh crap, that's a tornado.  Let's get out of here".  A hurricane, you got a good week or so of watching the weather channel before you need to make a decision.

I get about a 15 second warning. You can actually hear them coming in the mountains.
First time I heard one, I thought it was an actual train, then it dawned on me, the closest live track is more than 50 miles away, then it hit. :woot:

I will take a little rock and roll over a tornado or hurricane anytime.  Although I'm not partial to volcano.
