Where does the time go?  I started real world programming on Windows 3.1 and Unix, a year or so after 3.0 was released.  I can't believe it's been that long.

Fascinating when you think about it.  'I witnessed the event" as he claimed in the post, because we all witnessed what literally equals the discovery of fire by man.
Think about it, the entirety of human kind was effected by this event.
Not so much the silicon chip, but the ability to put it to use on a global scale, and we're only in the infancy stages of the computer.

But I'll make a prediction, and it's based on every major discovery since fire.
That people will yearn for a much simpler time, as my parents did witnessing the takeover of the car, or the invention of the phone and instant loss of privacy, so to speak. (My dad despised the phone and demanded it be used as a tool).

For me, it was the advent of the cell phone, something I still refuse to surgically attach to my ear for the convenience of others too keep tabs on my personal life.
Think about it, for many the cell has become as important as food, and because of this, are literally addicted to it and would possibly have a breakdown if it were to be removed.

The computer is much the same for many, they grew up with it, and if you were to remove it from their lives, they literally couldn't function, and it all goes back to this event, where Windows created a software that allowed any computer to multitask as well as communicate with other appliances.

Point is, if "God Forbid" we ever have a catastrophic event, say an massive EMP, will there be enough people still around with the resources to function without technology?

I am right there.  I already wish for a simpler time.  When I see movies from the 80s, and they have to run to a payphone to make a call, or send a letter via the post office, it makes me wish we were back at that time.

I was watching something about an EMP attack.  If that happens, it's pretty serious.  We'd literally be back to square one.

Yep, it's true. Too many literally depend on it for their lives. From turning on the coffee pot, starting their car, reminding them of a meeting, turning off the lights at night, yes, city folk rely on these apps.

Granted, I too would suffer withdrawals from the forum being down, but it wouldn't be the end of the world, but for many it would, the cell is their lifeline to the world.
