Jury Duty Scam

Pass this on to your grown children. This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below). Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty that a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced.

The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity was just stolen. 

The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including   Oklahoma  ,   Illinois , and   Colorado  . This (swindle) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system.

The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.

Although according to the FBI site, this started back in 2005, but for me, this is the first I've heard of it.

This is just more proof that the MSM is more concerned about politics and scandal, rather than alerting the public about this kind of danger.

Washington, D.C. - The FBI today is providing a   warning to the public against an ongoing scheme involving jury service.   The public needs to be aware that individuals identifying themselves as   U.S. court employees have been telephonically contacting citizens and   advising them that they have been selected for jury duty. These   individuals ask to verify names and Social Security numbers, then ask   for credit card numbers. If the request is refused, citizens are then   threatened with fines.

When I dbl back checked on Snopes, I saw it was from way back also.  I had never seen it before either. So I thought I should post it, I am glad I did...  there seems to be alot of this going around I haven't heard of.... better to share and see if anyone else has heard to.
