Nice looking.

How long have you been working on the boat?

There a need for a longer track and and~

Hoofer

very nice!

I know a guy who made one, but it wasn't that nice looking.  40' of track, chain pulled it along, a 40hp engine on it, used tires for the wheels where the blade rides.  It was pretty ugly looking, but just a fast idle and it could really cut fast.  He used water or oil as a blade lubricant.

Is that oak or pine?

Greeting Hoofer, Yes, I've seen, in pictures, some real beast looking mills, But we can't argue with success, if they cut lumber they're winners.

Mine isn't done lots to do and add. Like they say " It isn't a mill until it makes sawdust!"

This guy's mill's wheels (on the tracks) looked like little v-groove pulleys - your's look like little tires?
I can't remember if he had one chain or a chain on each side pulling it - but it was quick on a log, almost looked like it could jump off the tracks.

He had this hydraulic lift that could reach out and pick logs from a few feet away, than lift them into position, clamp them down.  A fence to brace the logs for the first 90 side cut, went up and down.

Needless to say, he just kept adding accessories to it... a labor of love.

Same guy built a beautiful Popular log cabin, amazing how quiet it was, and easy to heat in the winter.

Hi Hoofer, Some guys have done great things, I have no power but the power to the blade. My wheels are V groved steel. riding on the edge of an upright angle iron. It's not rolling smoothly I need to rework the wheels of get new ones.

Can I ask where this person is located. I built this mill without seeing on in operation except on the net. If he isn't too far off you might ask him if I could contact him. I'll understand if you feel that isn't cool. I'm a bit of a recluse me own self.

I would like to arrange power drive in time.

Thanks Richard

The boat, a 27' Catalina, not a work in progress, It's dry docked here, haven't sailed it for years.

He's in Wisconsin, it was one of those deals he built for his own use, and to make some cash sawing for others.
I believe he sold it a dozen or so years back.  The guy was a maintenance man from the beginning, built all kinds of stuff out of wood.
