Title: Mechanic opinion requested
Post by: valley on May 04, 2016, 08:04:15 PM
Greetings, I'm a mechanic, but stopped working at that trade before OBD I or OBD II

Here's the what I would love another mechanic thoughts on:

Wifey has a Chevy Astro, this winter the AWD stopped working. My Scan Tool will not command the AWD.

The Encoder Motor on the Transfer Case seems suspect. I took the electrical connector off the encoder motor, there are only two wires, one red, one black. I put 12volts from the battery to the motor~nothing happened, I'm thinking the motor should have run, i should have felt it.

On the net I didn't see that the tested them that way. If you know a bit about these, please let me hear.

Thank you

Richard

It's usually the motor. When I had my transmission shop and one would come in like that, we just put a motor on it and that usually fixed it. Sometimes that only way to diagnose a problem is to throw a part at it.
