I have a Netgear router and modem combo. Every day around the same time of day I lose internet connection for a few hours. I have changed out my router and modem combo to a new one but I still have the same problem.

I have Comcast as my internet provider and they are lost for words. They have sent out a tech several different times but all seems to be okay on both ends when the tech arrives.

Maybe someone on here can shed some light on the problem I'm having.

Thanks in advance

Hmmm, could it be your antivirus?
Check your windows security setting, as well as your clock, other than that, I'm just as baffled.

I have AT&T DSL (for now, FTTH on the way!!!) and mine goes out/slows to a crawl several times a day...

Next time this happens, recycle the power to your router first and see if the connection is restored. if that does not work, then cycle power to the modem and see if the connection is restored.  If neither one fixes the issue and the internet still is unavailable after that then the issue is definitely in the Comcast cable end.

Does the failure happen around the same time every day? Are there days when it does NOT happen?  I am thinking that this could be something in the physical cable coming to your residence that could be temperature related, as one possibility.

Your router should also have the ability to show some logs for events that it detects. There may be something in the logs that could shed some additional detail on your problem.

Thanks, guys.

I turn off the power and unplug it for about 15 minutes. When I turn it back on sometimes this fixes the problem right away and sometimes it doesn't. Right now the lightning bolt sign going up is orange while everything else is green.

Also, it happens around 10:30 am EST for about an hour and then it will come back on and stay on for the rest of the day. Now I do keep the router combo on 24 hours. It never gets shut off. Should I shut it down before I head to bed...?

As far as router logs are concern that's way above my pay grade.......

I have a question. What's another brand of router and modem combo is out there besides Netgear....?

I have the top of the line Netgear so I'm thinking about trying another brand.

Thanks, Solar...I did see that. My router brand isn't on their list. Also, I bought a new router and I'm getting the same results.
Can you do a hardwire connection and eliminate the router?

I had something happen to me about 30 years ago, only this was on my TV. (side note, thanks to this issue, I weaned off TV entirely)
Since I live in the mountains and the transmitter for the valley stations are nearly 100 miles away, I needed to go up 75' in the air with an antenna and signal booster.
My signal was kinda OK more like shit anyway, then one day, at 2:00 PM, fuzz, that's all I could get, white static, so I replaced my booster with a newer model, nothing happened, two months of this, so I called the FCC to see if others were having trouble in the area and nothing.
However, they transferred me to a tech for further assistance and I hit gold. He said, ya know, when boosters go bad, they tend to become transmitters.

Well, I decided to ask my neighbor a quarter mile away who happened to be in the direct path of my antenna to the valley transmitters and he said his booster didn't seem to be working all that well, said hang on, I'll turn it off, and Bam, I had a picture again.
His bad booster was blocking my signal. Now I have no idea if the same applies in your case, but a direct line connection could eliminate the issue.

Makes me wonder if a neighbor of yours has a bad router causing the same issue? Are you turning something on at that time?
Who in your area gets home about the time your signal goes out? Could be some other piece of equipment, shortwave radio, CB radio, welder?

But I'd be willing to bet, a bad router has the same effect on other good routers.

I have no idea, but maybe this will give you new avenues to explore.

Thanks again Solar. I was thinking along the neighbor lines but more in a devilish way. Like my neighbor tapping into my internet connection or something. I don't have Comcast as a TV source only the internet.

They head out every weekend and I don't seem to have this problem on the weekends. Also, they work from home. I'm going to set the mouse trap and see if I can catch a mouse in action.

As I type this is the same time frame when my internet connection goes out and all is good. I will let you know what I find.

My neighbors are very liberal folks and they are always asking why so many Flags. So we will see.

Stay tuned my friend.

I used to install Comcast cable, not the house connection, but the cable underground.
Check and see where your pedestal is located. long ago, they had one green pedestal for every two houses, and it was easy to open the pedestal and do whatever, because it's not the locked round green dome that keeps them out, you can pull the entire14" pipe out of the ground, locked dome and all.
And if he has easy access to the connection, he very easily could be disconnecting yours and reconnecting his.
Each pedestal had two connections, and if one home had a connection, both leads were hot, because they used a splitter off of one lead.

Though it seems like a lot of trouble to go to, but people are funny when they think they can get something for free and they'll go to great extremes for the thrill of screwing over the "MAN", and we all know how the left feels about Net Neutrality, they prefer Big Govt stick it to the "Man", never once considering the consequence leading to an oppressive govt that now has control over the web.

This was back in the 80s, so there's a good possibility much has changed I'm not aware of, but so has the ability of the hacker.
You may be on the right path, and if you can record or prove he's been stealing, you have a good case to sue his ass and recoup a large amount of money you've spent for nothing.
Maybe invest in a game camera focused on the pedestal?

Hope this helps.

Can you run traceroute or mtr?  You're using Windows, so I'd find something similar for Windows and let it run a little before it goes down and until it back up.  Save that data to a file, and you'll at least have a snapshot of where the bottleneck may be.

Well, Comcast sent not one, not two, but the whole damn crew. They sent three of their top tier computer mechanics. Obviously, when they arrived here my computer was up and running. So how do you fix a problem when there is no problem (at the time anyway). Now, remember my internet connection problem happens around 10:30am until about 2pm EST. They arrived at my house at 3:15pm.

They went through everything. Changed all the cables on the outside and inside. They changed my wall plate and gold feedthrough barrels. They stated gold feedthrough barrels can and will cause a problem. Basically, they changed everything in sight.

With all of that, they left confidently that whatever was causing me the issues it was now fixed.

Now they did come on Monday and today is Friday and I haven't experienced any internet connection problems. So with fingers crossed, candles lit, and a visit to the confession booth maybe the problem was hiding in one of the things they changed out.

Thanks for all.
