I have to admit I have become a Crieg's list Junky for building material and some tools. What I like about it is it's local and I can see what I'm getting. I just purchased enough 6 inch insulation R30 to insulate a 24X16 addition I'm building on the homestead. That's 4 walls, ceiling and floor for 250.00$ Brand spanking new. Any one else use them.

LOL, St is addicted, she is always telling me of free stuff.
Problem is, in my 4X4 diesel, it winds up being cheaper to go to home Depot and buy it.
We've gotten some pretty good deals off of it, got our puppy there. 8)

Craigslist is cool.

Last spring, I was looking for a cheap riding mower. A guy right down the road from me advertised a 15hp Bolens with a 38" deck for $200. I checked it out, and this was a NICE tractor, but it had a bent tie-rod on the steering. The guy said he'd been asking $400 but couldn't get anyone to bite because of the tie-rod. Took me maybe five minutes to fix that.

And then, what with the wife's gardening stuff and all, we had to have a trailer to pull behind that tractor. Go to Tractor Supply or Lowe's, plunk down $150? Nah. I found one on Craigslist for $25 over in Columbus. When I went to get it, the guy selling it had a long sad story. Short of it was he GAVE me another riding mower, a Craftsman, nicer, bigger and heavier than the one I had just bought. He even helped me load it on my truck.

Then there were those teenagers over in Springfield. Advertised two chainsaws and a weedeater for $10. That's ten bucks for ALL THREE. The best of them was a vintage Pioneer 3071 chainsaw, an all-metal beast. The second saw is my li'l pal, a McCulloch Eager Beaver 2014. The weedeater is a whiz-bang Homelite, probably the best running 2-cycle appliance I've ever used! The teenagers couldn't figure out how to get any of them running. I had them all running an hour after I got home.

Craigslist is a truly marvelous tool if you use it right.

Wow - some really good finds.  I find lots but because of timing, I am too late (a brand new with frame Pella sliding door for free-I was caller number two) or Solar will tell me we don't need it....but it's free.. :)) :)) :))

Well there are different ways of looking at "free" stuff. Here's my way:

If I have to drive two hours to get it, it ain't free. Sorry, kids, gas is around three bucks a gallon at the moment, and that means that my pickup truck costs 15 cents a minute to fuel. That means driving my truck costs $9/hour in fuel ALONE. The math is simple. If you're an hour away and I drive there to get your "free" item, it cost me $18.

Why can my wife not get this through her lovely head?

Here's another way of looking at 'free' stuff. Let's take that door as an example...

My first question is: do I need it? Do I have a use for it? Do I have a hole it will fit in? And finally, can I sell it -- QUICKLY?

If the answer to these questions is 'nope,' then the free item can just go to someone else.

Just my take...   ;D

The woman I share an office with at work did not know there was a "free" section on Craigslist.....and she's off....

Lots of good stuff on CL.  It's a good way to sell stuff too.  Be smart.  Use an incognito email account and never tell a stranger where you live or give them your phone number ( if it's a land line).
