Bring back the old style gas cans
« on: May 02, 2018, 01:15:03 PM »
Bring back the old style gas cans!

Or at least the old style pour spouts!

Well ... Someone did!

Quote
The old style gasoline cans with the separate spout and vent worked fine.

You could fill your lawnmower without spilling a drop.

About ten years ago, the EPA mandated the new "environmentally friendly" gas cans.
It is almost impossible to fill your lawnmower using these without spilling gasoline everywhere, including on the hot engine.

I'll bet the new rule came from someone who never even cut their own lawn.
How does spilling gasoline all over help the environment, your safety and your wallet?
Bring back the old style cans!

I use something similar to this:

Thing is, because they aren't red, Ca law dictates they can't carry gas, so don't haul them in open site, cover them with tarp.
I'm converting my 500 gallon diesel tank to gas and getting another diesel tank so we won't have to stop at the station for at least a year.
You can get these at any quad shop, or even lawn mower repair.

I like that spout!
Looks like a push button vent type cap?

Wonder if they are available here?

This is closer to the one I have, with an added 5 eights" hose attachment and cap, which you can get at the local hardware store in plumbing.
I can't seem to find mine, it's actually 7 gallons.

This is that attachment I was talking about assuming the cap isn't predrilled.
I can dump the entire amount in my Razer in less than 30 seconds.

They're available online, though I bought mine a Placerville Polaris here in the mountains for under $20.
I can't believe the prices I'm seeing, seems like a rip off online.

All those plastic cans they show in the first video only last as long as they stay out of the sun, I had some rot in 3 years, while others lasted almost ten.
I noticed a couple of the cans had a secondary lining which was great because as I poured, I saw it split, while others actually drained on their own that didn't have a liner.
I have about 3 Army steel Jerry cans and all of them leak from rust, I just keep them around for mental...errr, Sentimental reasons.

Oh God, I had one of those POS, hated it from the first time I used it. My brother asked if I had a can he could borrow, I said yeah, as long as you never return it.
He gave it away too. You spill as much as you pour in, that damn system is horrible, kept slipping off and there's really no way to hold it open on your own.

I haven't seen such a good story for a long time. Hopefully next time we'll talk about it again

Amazon sells yellow gas can vents, drill a hole and push them in. Work almost as well as what we used to have.  Sometimes you just have to go backward to move forward.

They now have small gas pump that fit in a gas can, that runs on two D Battery's for moving gas.  These pumps must be made for moving gas, as they also have some out for just moving water only.  I have been using the gas pump for over 2 years now with no problems.

I never have let any of my personal vehicle's gas levels get that low. I always keep them full.

Same here. I keep 1000 gallon tanks full of fuel as well.
But it's funny you mention this, because I was looking for an excuse to post this article.

The medias claim:

The incredible survival story of woman who ran out of gas near the Grand Canyon and used her wits to stay alive while she was stranded for FIVE DAYS

The truth in the story, my statement:

Feminist twit goes on road trip and doesn't fill tank before entering desert.

Maybe she should buy an electric car which does not require gas.
