Cleaned my chimney with a 7' length of 5/16" chain and a 30' piece of rope the yesterday. Just lowered and raised the chain a few times while shaking the rope, worked like a champ and a lot easier than the brushing I used to do. Kudos to my buddy for the idea.
If it was easy everyone would be do'in it.

Great idea, but I hope you have stainless steel pipe or brick lining?
I have to assume its a real chimney, to which thats an excellent idea, it breaks up the soot far better than just brushing off the top layer.

I myself burn Manzanita or Madrone wood, it burns so hot, that it burns the stack perfectly clean, but you have to open the house and let the heat out. :o

Mine did ours the other day.  I love a good dry heat, didnt need it today, we are in the 50's. But I am thinking to fire that bad boy back up in a day or  two...  We burn nothing but hardwoods.  Save all the other stuff for the cabin....

A chain on a rope is good, but it can't be directed to any problem spot. It's just a chain on a rope. Sometimes a stiff brush on a rod is better...

How about a stiff brush on a chain? :))
Or do like I do and tie a bag of rocks to the cats tail and scare his ass up the flue.

Of course I kid, I really don't scare the cat, I let the dog do that. ::)

The chain on a rope really does a good job, give it a try some time.

How about a stiff rope tied to a chain attached to a brush with a sack of cats and a bag of rocks suspended underneath?

Might work. Just askin'.

Tried that once, But gettin' those cats in the bag was to much like work for me.

Where I come from only a city boy would try putting a cat in head first.
