For the Ladies of the board..... (and men too  :tounge:)

I know my 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with a cummins diesel engine. is almost 10 years old.  It is just starting to get broken in niceley with over 165.000 miles on it.

Americans are keeping their cars longer than ever, with the average car being about 10 years old. While huge benefits of driving an older car include not having a car payment and having lower insurance costs, a disadvantage is that you can be hit with some unexpected, pricey car repairs. Fortunately, now there are numerous websites that provide guidance on whether the repair estimate you received is fair

Two of the most comprehensive websites for car-repair costs are AutoMD and RepairPal, which are both free to use. Launched in 2010, AutoMD is owned by US Auto Parts, an online auto parts retailer. It is staffed of a team of automotive data specialists and certified auto mechanics, using data based on average labor costs by ZIP code, time to repair and real-time pricing data on parts. RepairPal was founded in 2007 by a group of auto enthusiasts and entrepreneurs. It creates its estimates based on real-world data, including actual car-repair invoices, labor rates and parts costs.

Thanks, Walks. Have bookmarked the sites. Never know when info like that will come in handy.

I, likewise, have a tendency to keep a car or truck a long while, and basically put few miles on one.

Good find!!!
It's pretty hard to pull things over on me because I can do the work myself, but to actually have a site that gives you an honest second opinion is priceless.

All of my cars I have had, I had for over 35 years.   My last car was a 1965 chevy impala convertible.  I gave it to my son when I got the Dodge Ram.  At that time it had 400.000 miles on it.  I rebuilt the motor before giving it to him.  He just rebuilt the automatic transmission this weekend after 47 years of use.

THAT is amazing. I love me some old Chevies, and owned a bunch of 'em, but to squeeze one for 400K is ASTOUNDING.

You remember as well as I do that back in the day, a car with much over 60,000 miles on it was a wheezer. In 1972, I gave a guy $175 for a '63 Impala four-door in really nice shape (but with 80,000 miles on it) and everybody said I was crazy. It turned out to be a pretty good car for the short time I had it. (Traded it in a deal for cash to buy a '57.)

I had a '66 Impala SS convertible once. Beautiful car. Had 80,000 on it when I bought it, and everybody told me I was crazy. It had 143,000 on it when I sold it four years later, and the guy that bought it was THRILLED to get it. But I doubt if it ever made 400K.

Good thing you live so far out or you would have people knocking on your door all the time.  My son said he remember people following me home just to see if I would sell it to them.  Now he said there following him home asking the same question.

Yeah, they did that over 10 years ago when I still had it on the road.
I don't know what it's worth, but when it hits 50, I may sell it.

It's a nice book to put off until you have absolutely nothing to do.   Even being retired that time has not come around as of yet, being that I am married
