Why is marijuana illegal, while smoking and alcohol are not?

I understand that many of you hear do not support the war on drugs.

But no anti-drug conservative has ever even tried explaining the thread title.

Smoking and alchohol are among the most dangerous "drugs" in human history, but they are legal, and many conservatives use them.  But for some reason, weed is considered to be sinful.

Some very deadly drugs can make smoking and alcohol look like jokes.  It's just that weed isn't one of them.

Prohibition does not work. This fiscal conservative went on a trip to Europe last year. I made a 4 day stop in Amsterdam during the middle of my European trip. In that time I smoked 3.5 grams of marijuana, 1 gram of hash, and ate 3 hash brownies. It was awesome.

Amsterdam was clean, there was barely any crime to speak of, and everyone was super nice. I have never felt safer walking down an alley at 3AM in my life. There were no drug gangs to fight over turf, and no desperate muggers trying to rob you so they can get their next fix (as you see here in the US.)

Prohibition never works (See the prohibition on alcohol as reference)
Skepticism, like chastity, should not be relinquished too readily.
