Uncontrolled borders have consequences...

I wrote more than a year ago pointing out that in most western nations we have tough restrictions moving livestock across our international border and for good reason. As a practicing large animal veterinarian of more than two decades, I've completed thousands of health certificates for the international shipment of livestock.

We are a nation of free trade, free markets, free travel, and we are welcoming people. Those elements are essential to our country - but we need to prudently review our border control policy as a component of our overall public health.

As the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) grows, we see that among the deadliest hot spots is northern Italy. As someone who understands "herd health" in the animal world - many of the same principles apply when looking at human populations. Italy has "allowed" an uncontrolled influx of illegal cheaper workers, some of whom originated from China. They are now working to remedy that but they are already at crisis.

Contrast that with our neighbors to the south Mexico who have almost no reported cases of Coronavirus. They are staying ahead of the crisis and seriously considering restricting border access to their nation to protect their people and healthcare systems.

The fact is, not only is a controlled international border/ports of entry important to protecting workers from exploitation, preventing human trafficking, and stemming the flow of illegal drugs, but it's an important component to our overall public health policy because it is often the front line of defense against microscopic invaders.

To keep this in the vivid thread - Wally, the Harvard prof was getting paid buy wuhan university in China. The official reports are its just a coincidence, that he is not suspected of any ties to the virus.

People are going to look back at this and be embarrassed.

Lets close down our Schools

Lets shutdown all our sporting events

And make sure it gets blamed on Trump

I went to the Store last night and saw people! The bars had cars parked outside of them

And Walmart was open

This whole thing is blown way out of proportion. It shows that the Left wing propaganda machine still works

Gee, could it be Trump saw a flaw in preparedness? Nah, can't be, the left would never stand for real leadership that might expose Obozo for the failure he is.
Or, as you allude to, did our spies know something was in the works? Either way, it would appear that Trump was way ahead of the curve.

Toy sent me this. It reflects perfectly why we insist people back up their BS. Feeding the lie....

Something fascinating about the human mind... If you hear the same thing from 3 different people and or sources, it starts to become fact in that person's mind.

Even if the three people all heard it from the same single source (that started it)... And that source was lying or giving false information... Now that original person believes it to be real, because no way three other people would be wrong or lying to them.

Now, that original person is going to go around and tell everyone from they heard from the three people like it's a fact. Now everybody who hears it, will feel like it's fact, because this person is very confident in what they're saying (remember, no way would 3 people be wrong or all lying to them)... Now those people tell other people and so forth and so on... Now thousands believe something as fact because they heard it from all these other people...

Now, by the time it gets out this far, it has trickled down to the people who don't actually research, but believe everything they hear as fact and spread it as such.

In the end, it all came from one single source and that original source was lying or purposely feeding misinformation.

Be careful out there and don't believe anything you hear unless you track down the source or research it for yourself.

This is exactly how the media operates (and quite frankly, I see it a lot in the truther community as more and more people get involved).

We must be careful.

So this is an embarrassing question. But during this Covid-19 outbreak, there has been a problem with people hoarding toilet paper. What's the deal with toilet paper hoarding?

I hear that in some middle east countries they just use their left hand to clear things up afterward; never shake the left hand of someone from Bangladesh. The Sears catalog used to be a favorite in Out Houses. I think we finally found something that the NY Times can be useful for. Leaves also work, or pages from those old books you've been stock-piling for no good reason can be put to hygienic use - Gone With the Wind can get you through a month easy. A towel and bucket of water works too - just rinse the towel after every dump. It's not ideal, but certainly not panic worthy.

Why are people panicked over toilet paper?

People are panicing because they listen to and believe the media....I don't get the toilet paper thing, going to the grocery for routine shopping mrs Billy said the placed was packed and people were buying out the shelves. She just shook her head.

People in differet countries dont really use paper, especially Japan where they consider the practise unclean & Unsanitary, they use water ad most public places have ad electroic toilet that sprays your butt with water and air dries it and adds a dash of cologne all from a butto control panel on the side.

Lots of Asian countries use just water some a sponge. Of course the Middle east uses "Dung hand food hand"....plus....Sand

PLEASE DON'T PANIC ABOUT CORONA VIRUS. IT HAS BEEN CIRCULATING IN THE US SINCE NOVEMBER ... with no statistically noticeable effects on the country. For 2 months before the Trump travel ban, while the Chinese hid it, 1 million Chinese flew directly to the United States from China in December and February at a rate of 15,000-22,000 a day, including from infected areas. That doesn't even count those who flew in November. And ... no overwhelmed hospital system. No overall spike in death rates. Our virologists didn't even notice it. In fact, no one noticed any difference until the Chinese told worldwide media about it (or cued them to freak out about it.) So it has been with us since at least mid-November.
Meaning there's a huge central flaw in the media narrative because it essentially, at least psychologically, dates the beginning of Corona virus to the Chinese announcement in January and assumes an outward deadly spread from there. It's coming here OMG what do we do how many deaths will we see???
No, Corona virus has already been here and yes, our docs and scientists would have noticed a spike in deaths due to a mystery illness if it were going to be an unusually large mass fatality event. They didn't because there wasn't a statistically significant spike in deaths or routine illness this fall. Many of you have asked, well why is Italy so overrun? Italy is a 1st world country with a 3rd world health system. And it has tested more widely than we have. But let's look at the numbers. About 1,450 people there have died of Corona. They have a population of 60m. So that would translate to about 7,900 deaths in a country our size over the same period ... less than the flu has killed here in the US in the last 3 weeks ... and no where near the 500,000 to 1.5 million US deaths in the US the media was hysterically projecting this week. That's why Corona virus has escaped notice. Corona on top of the flu just looks like a more severe flu season than the year before, not a notable, widespread death event.
Now let's look at South Korea, a better health system and a better comparison. They are a country of 51 million people. They've had just 75 deaths and daily recoveries now exceed deaths, so they are at the tail end of Corona, as the US likely is. That death per population rate would produce 487 deaths here over the same period, given US population levels. Now do you see why no one noticed Corona was spreading here until the Chinese told us?
That said, if you are in a high-risk category, you should take the same precautions you would because we are in flu season. Both can kill. But otherwise, go about your life as you would. Yesterday, we went shopping, to church and to lunch. If you are healthy, you can feel comfortable doing the same.

Just a thought. Notice how we have not heard a peep from Russia about impact of the virus there. I would not be surprised if it is really bad there.
