Why the GOP better start embracing Libertarian Principles

Libertarianism has become an ostracized wing of the Republican party due to political cronyism and a marginalization of our constitutional values. Social conservatism has become the hallmark with regards to republican rhetoric and that battle plan will lead to its' demise. During the primary debates, Ron paul received more dollars from veterans than all of the candidates combined, energized a dormant and educated youth, and presented a budget that accomplished what too many politicians are afraid to. The way he did these things were not innovative by any means, instead they were quite simple and laid out in the document that is rarely mentioned during the most pressing debates about our nation, the constitution. If Republicans do not accept the Libertarian ideals that are supposed to keep the country free, they will no longer be able to compete with the big government progressives.

The only candidate to have served in the military, Ron Paul received more donations from the military than all of the candidates combined. The fact that his libertarian principles of using the military as a last resort and demanding that congress declare war before engaging in it may have something to do with it. As America has been at war for the last 11 years, the nation as a whole could not give you a common reason as to why our tenure in these countries has lasted so long. Thomas Jefferson once stated that "War is as much a punishment to the punisher as it is to the sufferer." It seems that as a nation we have failed to consider these words all the while adopting a neoconservative/preemptive attitude. Libertarianism promotes free trade and commerce as not only necessary for promoting peace amongst all nations, but facilitating the expansion of an economy that must sustain a growing population worldwide. What we have today is a government that finds it necessary to sanction, embargo, and price check countries at a whim utilizing unwarranted assertions. One would think that a simple understanding of economics would reveal why this is so detrimental to all those who are involved. If say a country like Iran was unable to export any oil as one of the world's largest oil exporters due to sanctions, what would be the second and third order effects? First, the oil supply globally would become deficient which conversely would raise demand. What do we have when we have a high demand for something, but the supply has been cut? Higher prices across the board. Simple fucking economics, but yet we wonder why gas prices are so high. Military force is a viable weapon to defend freedom of Americans, but that is it. Americans are the tax payers who have bought into this agreement of utilizing the military to protect their liberty, not some foreign nation, but yet we offer our services to almost anyone who calls. Treasure our service members and raise the standard for why we would ever allow their blood to spill.

The libertarian ideal is catching fire across college campuses nationwide. As our nation becomes exposed to different cultures and racial barriers are broken everyday, the college atmosphere can be considered as the leader of this revolution. Our young intellectuals are far more open minded than their predecessors who now fill the ranks of the conservative party and seek to inject their social values across the  nation. Overwhelmingly, our youth just don't give a fuck about abortion, gay marriage, marijuana, or similar societal issues. The point is that our youth is realizing that what one person does may not influence them in a anyway therefore why should one criticize another for pursuing happiness in their own way? The republican party on the other hand sees things differently. Last time I heard, we were not a theocracy. As a matter of fact, our biggest enemies have theocratic leanings and we should be seeking every way to place ourselves in a different box. Republicans want to implement federal abortion laws and make legislation that would state that a marriage is between a man and a woman. Where does this idea come from? The bible preaches this and that is all fine and dandy, but if the federal government is  going to attempt to define marriage, what is the purpose of the first amendment. Marriage is a religious sacrament, but yet the government wants its' hands all in the cookie jar, No Bueno. These decisions need to be left to the states. Many who are advocates of expanding the powers of the federal government say that the federal government should step in where the states leave a void. Fuck that! I don't see MURDER as being illegal in the constitution or even mentioned whatsoever, but yet is it legal in any state? No, because though some federal officials may not believe this, the states are actually MORE capable of maintaining society. Our churches, families, schools, and neighborhoods used to be the standard bearers for moral conduct, but I guess the centralized federal government is more capable of doing this job for everyone. NOT!! Our civil liberties are given to us by our constitution and the powers of the federal government are given to it as well. Article I, Section 8, enumerated powers. Abortion, drug use, and marriage is just not within the jurisdiction of the government, bottom-line.

The final reason why the republican party better tighten up and embrace the constitutional principles endorsed by libertarians is because we are in financial fucking ruins as a nation. $16,000,000,000,000 in debt, but yet the best budget that they can come up with is one that balances in 23 years? Are you kidding me? Does anyone realize that a trillion dollars in dollar bills would not only reach the moon, but come back with bills to spare? There are several budgets presented by libertarians that balance the budget between 3 and 5 years and puts our overreaching government back in its' constitutional box. Regarding fiscal conservatism, the GOP is slacking by its' inability to halt the massive spending by our government as well as its inability to provide realistic solutions to problems which are within the government's constitutional span of control. One of which being an audit of the federal reserve. Why is the primary culprit responsible for the value of our precious dollar being audited for the first time after being established in 1913!!! I rest my case since a libertarian has solved that problem. Libertarians understand the difference between rights and handouts and aren't afraid to differentiate between the two publicly.

If the GOP does not give Ron Paul a chance to speak at the republican national convention in Tampa this month, it will be to their own detriment. The following he has accumulated will not die anytime soon, because he has revitalized a base of individuals who will lead this nation in the future. There is nothing more exciting among today's youth than the ideals of freedom and liberty. The republican party better find a way to contrast itself from the progressive party or risk extinction.

You assume Paul wants to speak at the convention.

If Ron Paul had a huge following, Rob Paul would have received the nomination.  Ron Paul voters don't vote.

If they put this much energy as they do into actually voting instead of researching the hemp industry, Paul would be at speaking as the nominee at the convention...

And Liberty, I love Paul, but his view that we just leave other countries alone and it's all peace and love is the deal killer.  I love his frugalness and Austrian foundation, and his desire to cut the DoE, DoEd, etc.

I agree with most of the libertarian principles. Problem is, Ron Paul's ideas go too far, too fast. It took 100 years to create the current monster we call the federal government. To undo it within a few years, would lead to chaos.

Millions of people, across multiple generations, have become accustomed to the nanny state, as well as entire countries that have become dependent on the free money we give them. Sudden withdrawal would lead to multiple meltdowns.

That said, I would like for Ron Paul's voice to continue to be heard. When he's firing on all cylinders, he hits the nail directly on the head, and explains what's wrong with America, in easy to understand terms. When he gets himself too wound up, he begins to sound like the Ralph Nader of the right.

As far as having the ability to return us to common sense, constitutional principles, I have more faith in Rand Paul, than his dad.

How about Ron Paul for treasury secretary?

There is a reason Libertarianism doesn't work, the enemy uses what you consider strengths, against you.
San Fran used to be a Libertarian Utopia, and look how that turned out.

But I have to ask one question. Why have you people put all your eggs in the Paul basket, why aren't you helping other candidates enter office from the ground up, instead of forcing one politician down the throats of the people?
Not all of us think he is good as a whole for the country, some of his idea are great, while others slap in the face of Capitalism and trade.

So the Republican Party is doomed if they don't prostrate themselves at Ron Paul's feet? All that tells me is that you aren't a member of a valid political movement, but of a cult. And you're demanding that we give the same obeisance to the cult leader that you do.

No what Im demanding is that we return to a set of principles. Very well, maybe another four from Obama will force people to wake up. Its not a cult just because I would like to return to constitutional values.
