It's plain imo. Japan was defeated by the USSR in that awful war and naturally it lost some of its lands. Japan has no chance to get them back. Other countries may well follow this way and the whole globe will be absolutely destabilized then. Every country has some lost in wars lands and there's always great temptation to get them back. Perhaps some sort of compromise is possible in such cases... I don't know such examples. Maybe you might be in the know....

I think you'll find it was the US that defeated Japan in WWII, not the USSR.

Why is the civilized world becoming concerned with the Chinese building artificial islands in the South China Sea, in critical places where they can control shipping and curtail military sea transports? Aren't you glad that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan is now building the most sophisticated aircraft on this planet, and already has a number of stealth aircraft to address any regional threat?
Golly! Once their emperor is permitted to abdicate, all sorts of interesting things can be done to change their Constitution and seriously address their hated Chinese enemy.

The USSR took Japanese controlled islands? Did I miss something? Did WWII have a side war I'm not familiar with? Rommel's brother Fred, the "Island Fox" lead the Russian effort in Asia?

They also defeated the depleted remnants of the Japanese Kwangtung Army - whose best troops had been used up in the Pacific, Burma and China - in Manchuria, which they ceded to their Chinese Communist allies. Along with occupying North Korea.
