I will let this stand for a few days, then move it over to the Religion Forum.  Unless Solar of taxed tells me otherwise.

Why do we need religion?

To give the left something else to be angry and paranoid about.

Get rid of religion and the police and then look out.  Currently that is what we have, a push to get religion out of the picture and a move towards tying the hands of our policemen.  To be exact, the replacements for the current policemen would be of a certain ideology, one imposed by the administration of course.  Bet they couldn't have a religious affiliation too, unless they were muslims.

I have noting against religion - unless it is one that goes around saying "convert or die" - but I honestly believe that the human race has pretty much out grown it.

I am firmly in the camp that says Good people will do good things, and Evil people will do Evil things. It takes religion to get Good people to do Evil things. Now, that is not to say that all religions are that way, but you need to look no further than Islam to see the validity of that statement.

And, no, I didn't say "Radical" Islam. As long as so-called Mainstream Islam tolerates the actions of its "radical" members - and that is exactly what it is doing - then the religion, as a whole, is guilty of the crimes and atrocities committed in its name!

I know this is about religion but why do folks keep stating we're a democracy...? Why can't these people call the United States of America what we are a Republic.
People sleep peacefully at night because there are a few tough men prepared to do violence on their behalf.

A wise man uses it to scratch his balls.

Whenever I hear someone mention "democracy", I say something like, "Democracy? A Democracy is two lions and a zebra voting on the dinner menu!"

Anyone who believes beating them back with rifle shot and pistol shot is the answer is in for the long haul. Nothing changes until hearts and minds are changed. Short of that, all we do is to drive resistance back another generation.
If that worked, the world would be Islam.
Unfortunately, at this stage of existence, the only way for us to win a war is to kill our way to victory. God has better ways. He will help us if we seek Him. Otherwise, we take the long way around.
You may have heard it 100 times, "Read The Book of Isaiah."

Or, the Book of Judges.    The foolish people keep making the same mistakes and expecting a different outcome.  They go from being People after God's own heart to ...... every man doing what is right in his own eyes..... they fall into servitude to other Nations and cry out to God for help..... He delivers them and they follow God for a short period and then repeat the cycle of godlessness.

We are repeating their cycle here in the U.S.!!
The early settlers were fleeing godless tyranny and came her to worship God...... He heard their prayers and blessed their new Nation...... over the years we have slipped into "every man doing what is right in his own eyes".....  now we are falling into tyranny..... where we will stay until we cry out to God for help.....

They have held these beliefs for 1400 years. They were an irritant for most of this time as they lived in third world countries and could not pursue their ultimate goal. Technology has made the world a smaller place and they now have access to military equipment, etc; which makes them a global threat. It is senseless to think we are going to change their thinking. It has been proven they only understand strength and, unfortunately, that is the only solution. It is time to go ahead before they infiltrate our society.

It is a big mistake for secularists to regard Jihad as a conflict between Islam and Christians, Islam and Jews, with secularists standing around watching.

"Radical Islam" is NOT a perversion of Islam.  It is behaving exactly the way Muhammad behaved!

Islam DOES have a version of righteousness, one that is described in Colossians chapter 2:

20  Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules:
21  "Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!"?
22  These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings.
23  Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

Islam does NOT have a billion believers!  It has a billion HOSTAGES!  Many of the "believers" in Islam are examples of "Stockholm syndrome" - hostages adopting the dogmas of their captors.

Islam rules in its countries the same way left wing dogma rules in public schools.  People are never allowed to hear anything else!

Totally correct!

Living among them as many years as I did gave me a real insight into the "captivity" element of Islam.  The people really have no alternative if born into a muslim family.  They do not tolerate any apostasy.
