Whitman ruined NJ Police and Fire Pension
« on: November 22, 2010, 12:55:37 PM »
It went from the richest most secure pension sys in the country to what it is today thanks to her

This article was sent to me by my son in law a NJ police sgt

Michael Poquat, is a police officer in Mount Olive Township.

As a police officer in the state of New Jersey, I find myself unable to sit by while the current climate of public employee bashing continues under the misinformation fed to the public by the media and our current governor.

Blaming Whitman for something that several other New Jersey governors (mostly Democrats) were involved in, smacks of partisan political rhetoric to me.

This same situation happened to the mythical "Social Security lockbox" many, many years ago.

The same situation has happened to numerous state lottery funds in many states.

The "robbing Peter to pay Paul" list is a long one.

You sir have no idea what your talking about...I blame whitman because SHE DID IT initially...and she set the stage for it to go deeper and deeper in the hole every single year since..
I was living in jersey when she did it...and she did it because she wouldnt cut state spending but cut funding to towns pensions and told the towns to make up for it they didnt have to make their 7-9.5 % matching payments into the pension system
After many years of police and firemen paying their half of their pension and towns NOT PAYING THIERS it created a shortfall. You cant take half the funding for 20 yrs and keep it solvent....WHITMAN DID THAT hands down non debatable. Other govs continued the practice and didnt stop it...the shortfall to pensions has nothing to do with police and fire salaries
You dont think social security is facing a shortfall because it was robbed over and over by GOP and Dems alike ??

Im going to tell you all something...if the teaparty adapts and makes public the attitude of some of you guys on this and other conservative forums who give the impression that the working people are ROBBING THE COUNTRY BLIND and shouldnt get a fricken thing...the teaparty and the gop are going to DIE in 2 to 4 yrs..they cant win..with all public employees all unions and all seniors plus the usual blacks, libs, homos and other non gop turning on them...

You are missing the point here, zip.  Whitman may have started it, but NOBODY stopped it after she left office.  How come?

It took Corzine (of all people) to put a stop to it and demand that the towns start paying back what they owed to the pension fund.

Like I said, PLENTY of blame to go around, just like there is plenty of blame to go around with the economic mess this country is in.  Not all Obama's fault.  There was Bush and Clinton before him, who all share the blame.

Lets  start from the beginning AF...Whitman was confronted with a budget shortfall, instead of cutting govt which other state legislaters recommended she went directly after pensions...She did not want to pay the states portion into any pension..State Police, State Corrections, any state law enforcement she conveniently excluded the teachers union because they went nuts on her when she proposed it and she backed right off them.
Actuaries from the state dept of pensions NOT THE UNIONS told her the Police and Fire pension is the most solvent in the country because the costs are shared equally between employee and agency, if you cut 50% of the funding it will become insolvent in 7 yrs to 12 yrs...she did it anyway...now you can blame govs after her for not stopping it...but SHE DID IT...and she spent like a wild whore after she did it and created more debt before she left, the burden of the debt she created she cut from guess where the TOWNS...when the gov behind her came into office..the towns absolutely couldnt make the payments with the loss of revenue that she took off them to fund her spending spree....the govs behind her were unwilling to raise taxs to pay for it...so who got screwed...I dont blame Christi he inherited it...and hes right the pension is now in the hole...because of whitman

Having said that..this is just one example of workers meeting their obligation and having the employer stick it in their ass this time the employer was govt...the workers paid their share every payday.

The teaparty had take very good care not to turn all workers against them...they nor the gop can survive..most cops ive ever known were republicans...that can change in NJ it is..they are pissed
Some people have to stop attacking all workers as the bad guys and all the employers as the good guys because that is just a crock of shit...

Zip, I get it.  I read the entire link.

All I'm asking you to be is intellectually honest.  You are blaming Whitman for the whole thing, but letting all the other governors off-the-hook.

Whitman is a scumbag for starting it.  All the governors AFTER Whitman are scumbags for not stopping it.

I already said that...but the governors after her had a choice...raise everyones taxs, take the spending caps off the towns to allow them to even put the money back they OWED...it was whitman that started and caused the problem..she made it much worse for all other governors to make up that shortfall...lets understand that whitman was in office for 7 more years after she did that...it was already BROKEN beyond repair...she did it

Dont thinks its gone unnoticed that all the UNION HATERS have avoided this thread like the plague...because they cant find a way to blame the scumbag american worker and  union members for making it sooo hard for the poor wonderful honest rich people.

Im tired of hearing working people attacked by people on this forum and LNF...workers get up everyday and go work for less than they are worth alot of times, to make the rich richer...the rich want to pay them the least they can give them no benefits to enhance their profit...then they want to blame the workers and unions for making china a superpower...Im tired of hearing that bullshit..and Im not going to sit silent and let you get away with it anymore..
Every cop and fireman is a worker and a union member...my father and mother were working people and my father was a union man...WHOS company Pabst Blue Ribbon screwed every single worker out of their pensions
The just disolved the pension plan and started a new one...after 44 yrs of service my father got 190.00 a month instead of 1600 he was supposed to get....20 yrs later the union WON the law suit that the company just TOOK all the money out of the pension and KEPT IT... my father at 80 yrs old got his share of the money which was over a 100 grand.....
Union leaders and union workers are two different things...everyone that gets up in the morning and goes break their ass is not a greedy piece of shit looking to rob the poor rich guys...

Zip - It's not that I hate all Unions.  They do serve a purpose.  But unfortunately in my position I have seen the "government" unions at their worst.

A perfect example for me is when I was a police dispatcher.  We were approached by the DSA (Deputy Sheriff Association) to join with them and they would take care of us.  In the first negotiation with us involved they got wonderful raises for themselves and we got nothing.  We turned into the bargaining chip (sacrificial lamb so to speak).  Things like that leave a very bitter taste in the mouth.  The only dispatchers not bothered by this were the ones married to cops.

Just my opinion..... ST
Survival required that our ancestors regroup and forge ahead to the next challenge when they faced unfavorable circumstances.

I see a pattern here.  Labor unions and their inability to secure their member's pension funds.  Isn't this a common thread (no pun intended) with the labor unions?  The Teamsters are famous for robbing their member's pension fund.  Now we have PBR and New Jersey screwing over the unions, and these unions didn't have the clout to protect their worker's pensions.

Whitman should have been taken to court for robbing the NJ pension fund, and every governor after her should have been taken to court for allowing the robbery to continue, only because it would have been "politically inexpedient" to stop the robbery.

Nah, truth is, I know nothing of what goes on in...what State is this happening in?

I have enough corruption in Ca, than to concern myself with another States issues.

Did I mention that it is with the help of the Unions, that Ca is collapsing under it's own weight? ::) ;D
