Police made more than 150 arrests as a crowd broke windows and knocked down fences, protesting a Los Angeles court decision to sentence a white former transit officer to the minimum term for fatally shooting an unarmed black man.

Grant's uncle, Bobby Cephus Johnson, said outside court: "I do believe it's a racist criminal justice system." But he added that the family was reacting calmly.

An Oakland rally billed as a tribute to Grant turned into a march through the downtown area with residences nearby, where demonstrators broke car and bus windows late Friday night. Some carried a banner reading "Justice for Oscar Grant." Police helicopters hovered above, shining spotlights on the crowd.

Oakland Police Chief Anthony Batts said the protest was declared an illegal assembly after one officer had his gun taken from him in a fight and another officer was hit by a car and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

If it had been a black officer shooting a white man would we be seeing any of this?      I doubt it.

I pray, not wish because I have a God not a Genie.

Ive been following this...I have to admit I was surprised he got such a light sentence..considering the circumstances...
He said he pulled his firearm but intended to pull his stun....I dont know how you can make that mistake but then again when I was on duty we were allowed tasers..we had that antiquated thingy called a nightstick

I followed this and as a defensive tactics instructor I saw a lot of mistakes here, for one thing you never place a taser with pistol grips near your weapon strong hand side for just that very reason. If you look at the film that is what the guy did, pulled his service weapon instead of his taser and shot the guy.

It seems that the PD didn't have a policy on where the taser should be carried (opposite side of pistol) so a lot of this is on Departmental officials

It was more of an accident that anything, so I have a problem with any kind of manslaughter charge let alone intentional homicide.

But that just shows you what animals these people are. You can bet that Oakland, the traditional strong hold of the black panther party had a lot to do with it, I would bet some of those "Community organizers" were out in force over this one.
