From Dr. Krauthammer

They lose and immediately the chorus begins. Republicans must change or die. A rump party of white America, it must adapt to evolving demographics or forever be the minority.

The only part of this that is even partially true regards Hispanics. They should be a natural Republican constituency: striving immigrant community, religious, Catholic, family-oriented and socially conservative (on abortion, for example).

The principal reason they go Democratic is the issue of illegal immigrants. In securing the Republican nomination, Mitt Romney made the strategic error of (unnecessarily) going to the right of Rick Perry. Romney could never successfully tack back.

For the party in general, however, the problem is hardly structural. It requires but a single policy change: Border fence plus amnesty. Yes, amnesty. Use the word. Shock and awe — full legal normalization (just short of citizenship) in return for full border enforcement.

I've always been of the "enforcement first" school, with the subsequent promise of legalization. I still think it's the better policy. But many Hispanics fear that there will be nothing beyond enforcement. So, promise amnesty right up front. Secure the border with guaranteed legalization to follow on the day the four border-state governors affirm that illegal immigration has slowed to a trickle.

Imagine Marco Rubio advancing such a policy on the road to 2016. It would transform the landscape. He'd win the Hispanic vote. Yes, win it. A problem fixable with a single policy initiative is not structural. It is solvable.

Krauthammer got this one right. But that alone would not = a win.

Not really, there are 2 kinds of Hispanics.  Those who follow the rules to get into the country--THEY are the conservatives.

And those who broke into the country with Liberals and RINOs crying about amnesty.  Because they are low wage, low skilled, they NEED government services. They will ALWAYS for Santa Claus.  That's why amnesty will destroy this country.

You cannot have a welfare state and open borders.
Who do you think you'll attract??? It's a perfect recipe for the destruction of the country. Until then, the Demonrats will tighten their grip on power until it's impossible for us to win again,

What next, Krazy Kraut? An assault weapons ban? UN small arms treaty? Abortion on demand at 10 months? What a dipshit! Sorry Doc Watt, if you're looking.

Been inside the NYC/DC media bubble too long. To them the answer is always go Democrat Lite. As Lady Thatcher said: "....eventually you run out of other people's money." No more free stuff, because there's no money to pay for it. The Progs have always worked from the basic belief that the Center/Right tends to obey the law. But soon they left is going to have to go past taxation into confiscation. Then things will get interesting.

Didn't we try that once before under Reagan?  The conservatives would agree to amnesty if the dems agreed on enforcement?  The conservative kept his end, theibs, not so much.

Look for more to trot out their version of partisan solutions, but any solutions they offer will be on the side of the liberals and what we cons need to do for progress.  It comes down to us holding to our values or agreeing to the rest of their crazy, destructive agenda-period.

I, along with alot of other cons, don't think that the election was fair but outside of the servicemen's vote suppression I can't prove anything.  It is enough for me that they above anyone else would have to chase down their right to vote.  My "sheriff" said that he did not get to vote in the years of '76,80,84, because he was overseas and was not sent ballots.  If all of these elections are fair, why has this problem not been fixed in all of these years?  It's not like they don't have the time to fix the problem either.  I guess it was more important that fraudulent voting was protected.

I'm not giving in or giving up my right to my opinion and go with the crowd.

Krautherhammer (my personal Fav) gets it right again. Rubio is my choice in 2016, Romney should have chose him as a runnning mate...things might be different.

Of course there is no guarentee we'll have a country in 2016....

You think we should grant amnesty in exchange a fence?

No I think we should develop a reasonable immigration policy...we don't have that now. I think Rubio could develop a better one than Obamao....who likely will continue to do nothing.

Remember, I have a foreign spouse who, despite her wealth and education, plays second fiddle to someone who jumps the border without a dime.

As long as Obama is Prez we don't have to worry about any more coming here looking for work.  I may be heading to Mexico!
