Decades passed, and with time there were a series of ENCAMPMENTS, where former Union and Confederate Soldiers met, to talk, to heal.

Your history is absolutely correct, but Marxist care nothing about American history, they are all about fomenting hate through racial division by tearing down and erasing our history and this is only their first move.
There is one upside to all of this, these are small groups attacking liberal hubs, and the moment they go to a County/city where conservatives are in charge, this shit will come to a screeching halt, people will not only be arrested, investigations will begin and the rats will do their best to hide, but investigations will reach the State level and people will start going to prison.

Truth is, the Left lost, they know they're out of power for years to come so they have nothing to lose.

But the destruction of statues isn't dealing with the root cause of any of today's societal problems ... it's burying the past as you said. And where does it stop? Let's take Jefferson. He contributed greatly to the founding of our nation. He also owned slaves at a time when it was perceived as normal. Do we remove him from our books and miss the point that he could become so pre-eminent in establish a nation while still participating in a practice that we view as appalling? There's a lesson for all of us in that about compromise and rationalization!

I've been to some of these cities and walked by some of the statues - though I barely recall. I saw a guy on a horse and wasn't that interested in anything but how it spruced up the area. Now that I think on it, I know it was Lee on a steed. So now I think it was a depiction of a leader who was on the wrong side of the civil war. It reminds me that I'm glad God gave victory to the north and freedom to those who were enslaved. I don't even think anyone had that much intent behind the statues. And history books can be written strongly racist - but I can read them and think otherwise. I do it all the time with most other issues - read the opposing viewpoint to check or underscore my own thinking.

Should we start burning books next? I know you don't think that but there are some who probably do.

The lie that the Civil War was about slavery continues today, and google does its best to continue the cause and blame the South/Right, when it was the left that owned history.
Do a search for yourself, and after you've come to the conclusion that slavery was a South issue, google the last two states to end slavery.
