I heard Rush talking about this. These people are sick.

I can't even believe this is being discussed as a possibility.
Forty years ago I said the same thing about the gay issue.

This could be interesting. We know they have rode the back of the gay rights movement however the majority of the gay community will reject this...

God I hope you're right, you would think 99.9% of the Nation would reject it, but look at the idiots that reelected this clown, even though they knew he is a Marxist.

Of course they're talking about this. Long ago, on a board far, far, away I pointed out that the arguments used to justify gay marriage would eventually be used to justify every abnormal sexual coupling. I was accused of using the "discredited" slippery slope argument. BTW, has anyone noted that in Islam pedophilia is considered a positive act, because you are following the example of Mohammed the "perfect man"?

And in 50 years when someone compares the US to the era of Caligula, the left will once again claim you're abusing the slippery slope argument.

I've been saying it for decades, but to be honest, I thought Bestiality would have been first, but when you think about it, children are the ultimate taboo, kick down that door, and anything goes, even bestiality will look tame by comparison.

Did anyone actually read the guardian article?

Every time one of the absurd claims by Goode was mentioned, there were a couple paragraphs of rebuttal after it.

Want an argument why gay marriage and pedophilia are different?  Gay marriage doesn't hurt anyone.  Pedophilia does.

Nothing to see here, move on.

Uh the WHOLE point of attack by the pro pedophilia side is that pedophilia "doesn't hurt the child". How about paying attention to what's actually being said, as opposed to immediately leaping to the defense of gay marriage. So if pedophilia "doesn't hurt the child", what is the objection to it? Even arguing whether it hurts the child is the foot in the door, the camel's nose under the tent; because arguing that proposition in public, within a reputable organization, gives it validity.

Think this is very different. I have no doubt that the Libs might be quite on this issue.  Their views are so often so foreign to my way of thinking that I am incapable of understanding how they could say some of the things they do and actually be serious.  I still wait for them to break out laughing and admit that they are just joking.

I guess I disagree with this crowd on gays.  All the gays I know and I know several, were oriented that way from the time they were a tiny child it was pretty clear which team they played for.  I think the attitude that what they do is immoral and breaks down the fabric of this country will chase away anyone who has had personal experience with people who are gay and realize that they are not hurting anyone.  I would be a criminal if society said that I could only be with men.  No one taught me to like women and I did not have to figure out how to get excited by them.  There is no chance that I could teach myself to feel that way about a man.  It just is not going to happen.  And when a gay guy would say something to me in a way that I might say something to an interesting women I just take it as a compliment and tell them that I am not interested.

We allowed marriage to fall into the hands of the government and that was the big mistake.  Marriage is a thing for the churches and while I do not agree with their view that god hates gay people I think they have every right to live by what ever belief system they have.

Lastly, I see no harm when two adults are willing to commit in a loving way to each other.  Face facts heterosexuals have done an awful job in keeping marriage sacred.  At best it is a 50/50 proposition and few marriages last a lifetime.

Allowing it with a child is disgusting and I hope that even a lib would stand up against it and no accept that it does no harm to a child.  Children do not have the maturity to understand if what they are doing is good or bad and having an adult use them as their sex toy, no matter how loving they might be can never be condoned, supported or allowed.  I also think their argument that it is ingrained in their way of thinking only confirms to me that anyone who is caught doing anything with a child of a sexual nature should be put in jail for life without parole.   There is no chance that they will ever learn to not see a child as an object of desire so there is no chance that they can be rehabilitated.  When released from jail they might not act on it but I think they would if given the opportunity.

I can already sense the amount of fire that is going to come my way but I think that every forum needs to have all kinds of views and if I agreed with every post here I probably would not have replied as what would be gained by one more voice of agreement.  I just do not see how two people who are expressing love and caring towards each other could possibly be a bad thing.   I saw lots of heterosexual couples who were awful to each other and included their kids in the nightmare.  Being around them was terrible as they constantly go at each other about everything.  Just my view.

Just hit your head a bunch of times, and pretend you hate the country.  That's the best way to get closer to the mind of a lib.

I love gays and don't have problem with them.

I agree, but marriage is about a man and a woman.  Gays being married is such a joke to me.

I always tell people who are about to get married that I'll skip their first and go to their second or third.

I think you're fine.  No one argues two flamers can't be in love and have a great relationship.  It's just when they try to bring their deviance into main stream traditions, and involve kids, it's a problem.

I have felt for quite some time now, the only logical solution is to get the government out of marriage altogether. Extend the tax cuts to everyone (including those of us who are merry bachelors), and allow religious organizations and other institutions to decide what marriages they will recognize.

My big problem is when people try to force society to accept their behavior. A gay couple can live their life unincumbered by the fact that I view their behavior as a sin. Of course this is more a symptom of the thin-skinned PC culture of today than anything specific to gay issues.

I agree with both you and taxed responses.  I think most religions view it as an immoral act.  Only god really knows but who is to say what their beliefs should be.  As long as they are not tying them to the back of pickup trucks and dragging them down the street I think what they believe is up to that denomination to decide.

Our society is trying to insure that no one has an opinion on anything.  Everything has to be a shade of grey.  In other posts I have said that they want us to be sheep.  I raised my kids not to be sheep and to do the right thing as they see it and have their own view and question everything that does not make sense.

I totally agree that the word marriage and the act of marriage is a religious thing and really needs to be an issue for religions to take up.  Taxes and contracts and ownership is more in the realm of government and see no reason why a man and women living together while hating each other should have rights that are not allowed for two gays that actually love and respect each other.  Two great friends should get the same rights too as you suggest.

I think that gays do not help their cause when they stubbornly hand onto the word marriage.  That is and will always be in the domain of religion and while the government screwed that up, they should get out of it and just establish how one goes about getting the rights that a married couple has.  I am all for them getting those same rights as we all know misery loves company.  My advice to them is to be careful what you wish because it might come true.

Funny how the libs are all about equality except that some of their favored groups have to be treated differently.   Disagree with Obama you are a racist, expect that everyone enter the country legally again racist.  Stick to your religious beliefs about gays or marriage and you are a bigot.

I'm a big fan of that line of thinking.

Let's give civil unions to any two adults who agree to share their financial assets and take care of one another.  Give them all the legal benefits of marriage.  Let the churches decide who gets married, but that's a social/religious institution, not a legal one.

It's odd how history repeats itself, only because we never seem to learn from our mistakes.
Homosexuality has always been seen as queer simply because it is a failure, it obviously became a problem with society and so society deemed it immoral.
Why is it we need to repeat these mistakes?
