Title: US says 'strategic patience' on NK is over
Post by: Solar on March 18, 2017, 05:08:48 AM
This is refreshing to hear. I was stationed there under Nixon when things were still extremely tense, then carter came in and demoralized the troops and the situation has been capitulation towards NK ever since, that is, until now.
I expect to see NK back it's scrawny ass down when China gets nervous that we have a missile shield in their backyard, with a potential of becoming more than just a passive system.

With Washington taking a North Korea policy overhaul, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Friday declared that the existing "strategic patience" approach is over, saying all options including military action are on the table.

At a joint news conference with Seoul's Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se, Tillerson also urged China to cease its economic retaliation against South Korea over its plan to host a US missile shield here, calling it "unnecessary, inappropriate and troubling."

"Efforts for North Korea to achieve a peaceful stability for the last two decades have failed to make us safe," the secretary said.

as I read that.... paused for a second and asked myself, 'what If Hillary was POTUS...?'

Elections do have consequences, this difference is enormous in every sense of the word, and the effects are rippling across the entire globe.
I honestly don't remember this rapid change when Ronald Reagan was elected - I hope the positive stuff continues.

Probably follow hubbys policy of giving them the tech needed to destroy us.

Tillerson's message was quite clear and, as you say, refreshing. I agree totally that the message was for China as this administration knows there is no way to reasonably discuss anything with NK.

Yeah, truth is, NK is nothing more than China's junkyard dog. He doesn't bark unless he's told to, isn't allowed out of his kennel without permission.
This whole thing was aimed at China proper and rightly so, it was pointed directly between China's eyes. Now, will they blink?

Tillerson isn't saying anything new, just enforcing it rather than Obama's now-infamous neglect.

Whether or not State wins out over the number of generals OTHERWISE inhabiting Trump cadre positions? Gee. Count the stars on our Secretary of State!

I recommend the following Japan Times account, laying out U.S. military options against North Korea.

QuoteA strike on the North would likely come via U.S. stealth bombers, which can penetrate deep into enemy territory without leaving a significant radar trail.

While North Korea has good air defenses, these would be no match for stealth planes like the B-2 bomber, the F-22 fighter and, eventually, the F-35.

America also has ships and submarines in the region, so firing cruise missiles from unexpected locations is also an option.

B-2 stealth bombers carrying Massive Ordnance Penetrator bombs and other armaments could easily incapacitate North Korea's known nuclear production sites and weapons storage facilities.

Stratfor says an initial wave of bombing could be followed up by a massive barrage of F-22 strikes and cruise missiles that would focus on wiping out North Korea's weapons delivery vehicles.

Pyongyang has about 200 of the so-called Transporter Erector Launchers (TELs) dotted around the country.

The Stratfor think tank people say we simply can't be sure if we did wipe out all their nuke capability, once we do strike. Part of this could be the lack of money to dig deeper facilities, so the more bunker-busters here the better.

Kyodo Wire Service is a major competitor to Associated Press regarding Asian news. This appeared in a competitor to The Japan Times, but essentially echoes the mood that war is definitely coming to that region.

QuoteTOKYO (Kyodo) -- Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Sunday reiterated his intention to strengthen Japan's defense capability, citing the "severe" security environment surrounding Japan, including North Korea's recent test-firing of missiles.

Speaking at the National Defense Academy, Abe said North Korea's launching of four ballistic missiles on March 6, all of which fell within or near Japan's exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan, posed "a very serious situation in terms of our country's security."

"As the security environment becomes severe, we must enhance our own defense capability and aim to expand the role we can play," the premier said at a graduation ceremony at the academy in Yokosuka, southwest of Tokyo.

Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industry has landed the contract for F-35 assembly in Japan. The Japanese government desperately wants stealth aircraft to deal with this pint-sized Korean halfwit.

I was thinking more in terms of a tactical nuke right on Kim Jong Un's palace.

Why Russia and China always oppose Western missile shields:

Why do Russia and China feel threatened by DEFENSIVE measures?
Even when an anti ballistic missile system was proposed
to protect Europe from Iranian missiles (potentially nuclear)
Russia objected strongly.  Why?

Imagine two countries have nuclear missiles.
Each country is deterred from attacking
by the threat of retaliation by the other country.

Now suppose one country can block incoming missiles.
The threat of retaliation by the other country is gone.
The defensive measure changes the situation.
The defensive measure enables the free use of the offensive weapons.
_______

North Korea is China's pit bull.
North Korea does the dirty jobs that China wants done,
(like supplying terrorists)
but for which China doesn't want to be blamed.

China is not worried about North Korea ever attacking them.
Both know very well that if North Korea ever attacked China,
China would exterminate the whole country!

National security expert Peter Pry has written that
China likes North Korea being able to nuke the USA.
That would make the USA hesitant to defend South Korea or Japan.
That would make South Korea and Japan hesitant to rely on the USA.
That would make South Korea and Japan more inclined to
comply with China's influence instead of the USA.

I would think China would at this point be willing to work with us. Kim jr is more unstable than his father. Him having nukes is like giving an infant scissors and telling him to run down the hallway. There is an ever growing chance that there will be a nuclear explosion in China's backyard and it won't be from us.

That's why this is an irrational fear, China has a tight leash around NK' neck. All of what we're witnessing is theater designed for china's consumption.
China tells Kim to bark, he asks how loud, they tell him to sit and be quiet, he sits in his doghouse waiting for their next command.

Trump just flipped china's game on them.
We make the world concerned that there could be a war with NK, and china's economy suffers horribly, something China can't afford so the next move will be to quell Kim and quiet this whole mess down.
Trump is playing a masterful game of chess and has China in Check, using their own pawn against them, NK has just been locked down and it's China's move.
