Oh, and Gorsuch may be the determining vote.

Mark Janus has worked for years as an Illinois state employee, and pays about $550 annually to the powerful public-sector union known as AFSCME.

While not a member of the union, he is required under state law to hand over a weekly portion of his paycheck – which he says is a violation of his constitutional rights.

"I work for Health and Family Services, and I'm forced to pay money to a union that then supports political causes that I don't agree with," Janus told Fox News.

Now, Janus' free-speech fight is before the Supreme Court, which holds arguments in the appeal on Monday. And the political and financial stakes are huge for the broader American labor union movement, which already has begun sounding the alarm about the consequences should the justices rule for Janus.

'I just look at it as an average guy just standing up for his own rights of free speech.'

The same thing happened to me while teaching in CA (no choice teachers union).  I "got" to contribute campaign money to the likes of Jerry Brown.   :glare:

The difference is that "agency shop" is state laws with require that anyone who doesn't join a union must pay "an agency shop fee" equivalent to union dues which members provide.  Such dues and agency shop fees are taken directly out of each employee's paycheck and given to the union. The case in front of the SCOTUS is to do away with the agency shop laws of twenty two states which violate employee's 1st Amendment Rights to Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Assembly.

The democrat RICO fraud scam mafia continues to wither, without a totally corrupt white house and justice system to service it.

We are lucky to be able to witness this.

In New York State the union Leaders and the public employers are all too chummy with one another.  It's all pay to play and the government worker's are compelled by law to subsidize the scheme.  Anyone who works for the union gets rich.  (By "works for" I mean a paid employee of the corporation which is the Public Sector Union; not a government employee who volunteers to work for their local in an unpaid position representing tier member).  There are paid union members that go back and forth between state jobs and union jobs, just like the lobbyist and Federal government agencies do.

NYC is probably worse than DC.  The govt just stole the complete mafia playbook and has been using it for 60 years.  What a cesspool of the worst of humanity.  Chicago may beat them all.  Memphis close, but much smaller.

A huge part of the problem is the automatic payroll deduction. If the people had to write a check each month for UNION DUES, how long do you think that would last???

All Public Sector Unions are affiliates of AFSCME (Association of Federal, State, County and Municipal Employees) which has the power and influence of the entire swamp behind it!

I am surprised that this courageous guy that filed the lawsuit hasn't met with some fatal accident under suspicious circumstances.

The only thing worse for the unions than this would be if auto-deductions from the paycheck were banned.

Absolutely. If members had to write a personal check for the union it would be a nightmare for the unions.

I wonder just how many will remain with the Unions after this passes?
Seriously, the only reason Unions exist today, is through coercion.
In truth, Unions are irrelevant because the laws on the books already protect workers as it is, so Unions are nothing more than a leach on employees as well as employers.
They are akin to toll booth on roads already paid for by the taxpayer.
