Title: Unfriended on Facebook
Post by: Darth Fife on March 22, 2015, 01:41:57 PM
Well, it's like this.

I accidentally added a friend on FB. The guy said "no problem" and I started getting some of his feeds - all decidedly Left Wing Obama Propaganda.

Most of these, I ignored. However, today, he shared a post about the wonders and glory of Obamacare. I just couldn't let that one fly!

So, I refuted each one of his claims (actually, they were pretty standard DNC talking points) and did so politely and with more respect that his fellow posters showed me.

Some how, the discussion got around to modern day slavery. I pointed out that the one common denominator in the modern day slave market is Islam. That was the staw that (if you'll excuse the expression) broke the camels back!

Not only did he "unfriend" me on FB, I am, apparently, banned from his account entirely!

...

I must be doing something right!

I am on FB, but do not post anything political or controversial. I can't believe some people and what they post on FB.

I gave up on it.  Wasn't interested in seeing what everyone ate for breakfast.

I used to be that way for a long time. Even now, I will rarely initiate a political or "controversial" post, but I do, on occasion, respond to them. I do so politely (no name calling) and with reasoned logic to support my argument.

I guess I'm to the age where I really don't give a rats ass what people think about me. And, if a potential employer goes looking through my facebook posts to see what I have to say, more power to him/her.

If they are going to not hire me due to my political or personal beliefs that I have shared on the internet, I'm pretty sure that that is not the kind of company I would enjoy working for.

As Capt Picard said in the Star Trek: The Next Generation pilot, "If we are to be damned, let us be damned for what we truly are!'

Facebook is like most everything. It can be good and it can be bad. It all depend on the participant and their levels of responsibility. I am on FB and find it beneficial in connecting with folks from years gone by and keeping up with folks. I make it a point to stay away from controversial or political conversations. That being said, I am amazed what some people will post.
