Title: Trump To End Fed EBT/Food Stamp Scam?
Post by: Solar on February 13, 2018, 02:54:37 PM
I love this idea!!!

Trump wants to cut back on food stamps for the poor and substitute with packaged food deliveries
A proposed food delivery program would replace about half of food stamp benefits for households who qualify for the boxes.
The plan would put the U.S. government directly in charge of what goes on the dinner plates of more than 16 million low-income households.
Critics say the program would be inefficient and costly, and would end up reducing benefits for low-income families and communities.

The Trump administration is proposing replacing a portion of the federal food stamp program with actual boxes of food delivered to recipients' front doors, putting the U.S. government directly in charge of what goes on the dinner plates of more than 16 million low-income households.

White House budget director Mick Mulvaney likened the model to that of the dominant meal-kit delivery service, Blue Apron, and called it one of the most "innovative" ideas in the president's budget.

"I don't want to steal somebody's copyright," Mulvaney told reporters Monday. "You actually receive the food instead of receive the cash."

Wow! they will now have to buy their own T Bone steaks and pork tenderloin.  This will also cut down the long lines in grocery store.

The grocery stores will not be happy.

Though I like the message, I really think we could accomplish the same thing by restricting food stamps use to a limited list of items and enforce laws and penalties for allowing purchases of non approved items and the selling of them.

Creating more bureaucracy to manage the acquisition and delivery of food items is just inviting all kinds of graft and expense.

Nothing small government about that idea......

I'm hoping this is "art of the Deal" at work, ask for the outlandish and settle for real practical reform

 The government can use the w.i.c. program as a blueprint to set it up. Results? Better nutrition, less expensive, less fraud, more of the $ spent would be going to where it is needed. Chances of the dims passing something like this,  0%.

This is easy to solve,, let Blue Apron bid on running the program.

Yeah! That was my first thought too.

But a government handout program will be so messed up - the government can't do anything efficiently as we all know.

Hey wait - it's already a screwed up government handout program! So there isn't much to lose. So it will probably get even more screwed up and some of the folks in the handout line will decide they need to find a job and buy their own food from the local grocer.
