....Remember, NAFTA was one of the WORST Trade Deals ever made. The U.S. lost thousands of businesses and millions of jobs. We were far better off before NAFTA - should never have been signed. Even the Vat Tax was not accounted for. We make new deal or go back to pre-NAFTA!

There is no political necessity to keep Canada in the new NAFTA deal. If we don't make a fair deal for the U.S. after decades of abuse, Canada will be out. Congress should not interfere w/ these negotiations or I will simply terminate NAFTA entirely & we will be far better off...

And that 25 billion is for just the first year.
He'll be entitled to that money to use toward the wall, and Congress knows it!

Trump is killing Trudeau.

This has not been a good week for Justin Trudeau.

It began with a surprise U.S.-Mexico trade pact that excluded Canada from a Nafta rewrite, sending the prime minister's negotiating team scrambling to strike a deal ahead of the Trump administration's deadline. Then a key pipeline he spent billions to nationalize got sideswiped by a court decision, and the most important ally in his climate change plan abandoned him. And now the White House has informed Congress of its intent to sign an new agreement with or without the northern nation.

While the 46-year-old leader has had plenty of political stumbles during his first mandate, the events of the last few days are among the heaviest blows Trudeau has taken on core economic files. They come just as his Liberal government prepares to reset its parliamentary agenda going into an election year.

"The opposition are going to try and paint this as an example of incompetence," said Robert Bothwell, a professor of Canadian history and international relations at the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto.

Even before this week, Trudeau was having a rough go. The Group of Seven summit he hosted in June, meant to be a showcase of Canada's global leadership, was blown up by Donald Trump -- prompting questions about his strategy to handle the capricious U.S. president. Decades-old groping allegations surfaced, and a bitter diplomatic spat with Saudi Arabia erupted over a tweet.

A steady flow of asylum seekers has also dogged the refugee-friendly Trudeau government, making immigration and the border political issues in multicultural Canada. All that was on top of a bumbling trip to India in February, where he was mocked for parading through the country in a range of traditional outfits.

Trudeau Screws Canada

U.S. and Canadian officials have concluded the latest round of trade talks without reaching an agreement.
The U.S. is moving ahead with the trade agreement it reached with Mexico, according to the Trump administration. Talks with Canada are expected to resume next week.

"Today the President notified the Congress of his intent to sign a trade agreement with Mexico – and Canada, if it is willing – 90 days from now," U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer  said.

"We know that a win-win-win agreement is within reach," Canadian foreign minister Chrystia Freeland said in a press conference Friday. "The government of Canada will not sign an agreement unless it is good for Canadians."

Freeland added that the U.S. team has been negotiating in "good faith and with good will," contradicting reports that the U.S. was trying to strong-arm Canada into accepting an unfavorable trade agreement.

"If we don't make a deal with Canada that's just fine," Trump said at an event in North Carolina Friday.

Canada has a lot at stake in the fate of the North American Trade Agreement. A complete revocation of Nafta would cause a 2.2 percent decline in Canada's GDP, according to an analysis published last week by the Bank for International Settlements. Mexico's GDP would fall by 1.8 percent, the BIS said. The U.S. economy, however, would suffer just a 0.22 percent decline.
