It had been reported previously that Pres. Trump may be violating nepotism laws by appointing Ivanka and Jared; which is deeply concerning considering that Jared is now in Iraq.

Trump senior adviser Kushner travels to Iraq, White House aide says

resident Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, is in Iraq and is traveling with the chairman the of Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joe Dunford, a White House aide confirmed to Fox News Sunday.

Kushner was invited by Dunford to travel with him to the Middle East.

Other details about the trip have not been released. A senior administration official told the Associated Press that Kushner wanted to see the Iraq situation for himself and show support to Baghdad.

Kushner's West Wing portfolio is robust. He has been deeply involved with presidential staffing and has played the role of shadow diplomat, advising on relations with the Middle East, Canada and Mexico.

Last week he launched a task force meant to modernize government using lessons drawn from the private sector.

And though Kushner had no previous diplomatic or government experience, Trump also tasked him with trying to broker a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians....

I'm not comfortable with Jared Kushner in the White House at all. He and his family are up to their eyebrows in corruption; his father spent two years in prison for illegal campaign contributions and tax evasion. Jared is also working on a deal with the Chinese; he is "nearing agreement on a joint venture” with a huge Chinese financial company, Anbang Insurance Group, for the redevelopment of a piece of Manhattan real estate Kushner’s company owns".

All eyes have been on Russia, when perhaps we should be investigating ties with the Chinese.

UPDATE

Reuters says this is withdrawn.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-iraq-kushner-idUSKBN17503F

Thanks for the update. It will be interesting to see if FOX News also retracts their story.  The fact still remains though that Kushner is making business deals with the Chinese and it sure seems to me that Trump violated nepotism laws by hiring him.

When I saw this, I laughed out loud (by myself) for five minutes. The part about brokering the peace deal sealed it. That's what I'd do with my kids - throw them into one of the most difficult historical problems. I think that Kushner is probably just carrying the real diplomats bags. Trump sending him to learn on-the-job.

I think Topside got it right, it's Trump finding ways to get the kid out of his hair and maybe OJT in the process.

As you pointed out to me prior, Trump is used to doing whatever he wants. It's amazing he doesn't see that bringing his family into the middle of the presidency is such a bad decision. There is a whole nation of independent people to choose from - and I doubt that his daughter and son-in-law are the best the nation has to offer regarding running the country. When you get an outsider, you have to take the bad medicine with the (hopefully) good.

I keep thinking about if Cruz were elected, would he have had the tenacity to work at so many issues, or would he have just mellowed into a politicians mode instead of making some of the bold moves that Trump is working towards. Coulda, woulda, shoulda ... I need to stop it. It's all water under the bridge and unproductive thought at this point. But the next presidential election will either see Trump in again (if he lives through this four years given his pace) or another Dim because the nation will be tired of the Trump theatrics. The idea that we could put someone else in under the Pub party for the next term is unprecedented. So the focus is really on 2025 to get a stronger conservative in with a backup plan for 2021 if Trump's health doesn't hold up. Although I would bet the party would back Pence then - again, typical.

I think the 2018 mid terms will measure how people feel about Trump's success.  As it looks right now, I'm not holding my breath for retaining the majority; especially in the Senate.

I think you are right about 2018. However, I am more inclined to look at the house. There is only an 18 vote majority. If Ryan doesn't improve his performance the house might be more in play. I say this mainly because of the Senate races 25 are democrat seats with only 8 pub seats up. Of the 25, 10 are from states Trump won. If Trump maintains his core support these 10 seats are up for grabs for the GOP.

Even in best of times the expected swing is about 30 seats for whichever party holds office. 2018 will be vicious.
