Trump Says Confiscate Guns First, Due Process Later

Although he is not the world's strongest conservative, the 45th president seems to understand the core principles that made America great, and in his blunt but effective way, has stood for common sense and against liberal sophistry at many levels — including within the mainstream media.

When President Trump swerves away from those core American views, however, it's time to call him out... and that is what we must do today.

On Wednesday, Trump held a meeting with key policy makers on the topic of gun violence, and said some words that can only be described as massive red flags for anyone who believes in the Second Amendment and the rule of law.

"President Trump... voiced support for confiscating guns from certain individuals deemed to be dangerous, even if it violates due process rights," reported The Hill.

"I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man's case that just took place in Florida ... to go to court would have taken a long time," the president declared while discussing gun policy with Vice President Pence and other leaders.

Here is the line that is particularly alarming. "Take the guns first, go through due process second," Trump stated.

The problem with these statements is clear: That's not how due process works. Bypassing the court system because it's inconvenient is literally the opposite of due process, and opens the door to a slippery slope of abuses that would have no end in sight.

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions!   The meaning of "due process" is to assure that any restricting an individual's civil rights only can be done pursuant to a process that ensure compliance with established constitutional protections.

Yes, kinda stupid to say "due process some other time".  This is literally the mindset of Hitler, Stalin, Chavez, Castro, etc.

I would like to give him a little credit though, for the likelihood that he's saying the kind of thing that would reel Feinstein and other dem fascists in.  To get them to accept other conservative / logical things.

The art of the deal and all that.  It's what he did with DACA, going overboard with the 1.8 million path to citizenship..... to lure them into the things he wanted - the wall, kill the lottery, kill the chain.  Or make it obvious that they don't even care about the DACA "kids".

Here, he's likely to make them show their asses, that they don't really care about these kids...... only hating Trump and taking up all guns.

Trump makes me jittery with some of his off the cuff statements and the chips he's willing to bargain with. Before this school shooting, I am still trying to come to terms with his proposal for granting Amnesty to illegal aliens.  Don't get me wrong; I still support Trump.  Unlike the Libtards on the Left though, I don't think that most conservatives will trust trust their President Blindly and go wherever he leads.  That's not the way our government is suppose to work.  I really don't like it when he publicly chastises conservative members of congress for their support of the NRA and gun owners.  It's not all about fearing them! Give me a break!  This may bite them in the ass in the midterms!

He does have some odd methods, but I think he's got the dems where he wants them on immigration.

They either give him the package he wants, or he will destroy them in 2018 and 2020 with "they hate me more than they care about the DACA kids".  This ad will run 24/7.  And they'll lose a big chunk of their shrinking base.

Yes, I get that about the DACA package.  However, pitting GOP conservatives against heir own base when they need to stand for reelection in the midterms is pretty risky.  Conservatives aren't afraid of the NRA lobby; they and their supporters simply agree with the NRA's position on the 2nd amendment.  I think Trump may be missing this.  You don't deal away your principals, in order to get leverage for some sort of deal that represents form over substance.

You say you understand the DACA issue, then you turn around and claim "You don't deal away your principals".
Show me one time Trump has done that, seriously, there isn't a single thing out there showing Trump leaning left beyond rhetoric.

I know, don't listen so much to what he says; watch what he does.  It's rather unnerving, though.

This is Trump. He throws stuff out there and then waits for what lands on the ground. With Trump it is always about waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I am reminded of long ago when the Left when characterizing Newt Gingrich as crazy when he was selling the Contract with America because of some of the ideas he expressed.  This sort of dies off when some of his college professors who where his peer rallied to his defense.  They were known Liberals, who said that "Newt's a Free Thinker" and the way he works is he'll just throw out any ideas that pop into his head and then reason them out with others.  They said that this doesn't mean he actually believes in the thoughts he puts out for discussion and in fact after he discusses the idea that he often is the first one to reject what he had initially proposed.  He was described as a genius who what well respected for his analytical process in the way he ultimately arrived at a final position.  Does anyone else recall this?  (IF you do, you're really showing your age...  :tounge:)

(it kind of reminds me of don't say too much attention to what Trump sometimes says or tweets; his final position and ultimate results are far more important)

Yes, and Newt was young and impetuous, knew the Constitution, but didn't have a clue as to what it meant to be an actual Conservative.
And to date, still doesn't.
How many times have you as a Conservative, ever changed your view on an issue? What, none? Me either.

I think that some of our Conservative Friends have caved in,  The continual onslaught of the Left takes its tole on everyone of ours who stay too long in the limelight.  I am grateful for what they have done to advance our cause, but Newt is a good example of someone who is well past his prime and should have retired to academia.  After awhile, they all seem to lose the fire in their belly.

True, Newt was perfect for the time. I have but one regret, that he allowed all those Libs to water down the GOP, he should have said, "You want a seat, campaign for it".

Agreed!  However, I believe Newt has always meant well.  Again, as with so many others on our side, he lost the clarity he once had.  " Illegitimi non carborundum!  "
