Agreed!  However, I believe Newt has always meant well.  Again, as with so many others on our side, he lost the clarity he once had.  " Illegitimi non carborundum!  "
Oh, no doubt about it, he was the odd guy out in the GOP, the only one acting conservative, problem was, he isn't a true Conservative and never was, but he was great for the cause.

That would be an interesting topic for it's own unique thread,  "What is a True Conservative and Who is an example of a True Conservative"?

I can think of many individuals who have taken very conservative positions on a variety of things that I would associate with someone who is " a True Conservative.  However, it is difficult to find anyone who has not compromised on some things that "a True Conservative" would never compromise on.

The problem is that politics "is" the art of compromise. Nobody has ever gotten everything they've wanted.  Before there were political parties, the Left and the Right argued about what should and what should not be included in our Constitution.  Moreover Liberals and Conservatives were divided among their own groups about whether there ought to be any Federal Government at all, or simply a Northern and a Southern Confederation of States; since their beliefs and economies were so much different.

One of those things I do admire about Gingrich is his historical perspective.

I agree, Newt, just like Cruz have a true grasp on the constitution, and I love discussing it too, unfortunately, most find the topic boring.
The left and the Right butted heads on the Constitutuion, believing, and Rightly so, that the Constitution gave way to much centralized power over the people.
Which created a compromise, that, before we ratify the Constitution, we have presented a Bill of Rights, that if not agreed upon, there will not be a government.
Thanks, back then, to the original Conservatives, the Classic Liberal.

Here's my example. But you're Right, discussing Conservatism is near and dear to my heart, and something we should always do when the occasion arises.

Thanks!  I read the article in the link you provided.  I don't disagree with it at all.  However, like so many other things in life what keeps us from achieving the ideal is the fact that human being vary in their (for lack of a better word) "goodness".  It very easy to talk the talk, but not as easy to walk the walk.  It's rare to find a political Leader who can (could) do both.  I'd have to give Ronald Reagan high marks for the ability to talk the talk 100% and actually practice what he preached to a far greater extent than most of those who we send to the swamp.  The Devil's are in the Details!  For instant, I am a Christian, but I'm not a very good one.  I often cuss and I'll be damned if I'll turn the other cheek.  I have no doubt their are Christian Conservatives who are far better at walking the path of the pure in heart, but I guess I'll never be meek enough to inherit the earth.  I'll let them do that and I'll be content with fighting the Libtarded Left with all my strength until the day I die.

I meant to modify but hit quote...  OOPS!

anyway...I added that sometimes the missing ingredient amounts to political skill and the amount of courage one has; that doesn't necessarily make someone a bad Conserviative only a weak one. Not all are equal!

The link I posted is at the core of Conservatism, it's up to the individual to stay the line as best as possible.
Our Founders were all pretty much solid Conservatives, so they understood the value of mores, they also understood there are people out there that require restraints once in power, which is the very reason we have a Bill of Rights, even then, they knew not everyone shared their experience or values so they placed constraints on the new govt..
