Statement of Federal Railroad Administration on Termination of FY '10 Grant Agreement with California High-Speed Rail Authority
Thursday, May 16, 2019

Statement from the Federal Railroad Administration
"After careful consideration, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has terminated Cooperative Agreement No. FR-HSR-0118-12-01-01 (the FY10 Agreement) with the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA), and will deobligate the $928,620,000 in funding under that agreement.  The decision follows FRA's Notice of Intent to Terminate and consideration of the information provided by CHSRA on March 4, 2019. FRA finds that CHSRA has repeatedly failed to comply with the terms of the FY10 Agreement and has failed to make reasonable progress on the Project.  Additionally, California has abandoned its original vision of a high-speed passenger rail service connecting San Francisco and Los Angeles, which was essential to its applications for FRA grant funding. FRA continues to consider all options regarding the return of $2.5 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds awarded to CHSRA."

Newsome didn't kill it, that was just a stall tactic to keep the Fed off his back, he failed miserably.
He claimed: Gov. Gavin Newsom pared down the project earlier this year, concentrating on a line connecting Bakersfield to Merced.

If you've ever visited Ca valley, you'd know this is ridiculous, because it hundreds of miles from where the people live, like Reno to Vegas, there's nothing in between but desert.

Was this route really necessary?

Nope! The whole thing was to serve the Bay Area and La, nothing in between, then Dim mayors started whining that their towns were being missed and they wanted part of the action or they would refuse to support it, so payoffs were made, the route continued to shift all over the state, resulting in no speeds higher than 75 Mph. The damn thing turned out to be a Greyhound bus Milk Run, with stops every 20 to 40 minutes or so.
The whole thing was nothing but a bailout for Ca by Obozo, they all knew this thing would wind up costing over three hundred billion in the end, and that doesn't account for maintenance and the fact it was built on the San Andreas quake fault line, the most active fault line in the US.

That is what confused me. I have never been to California but I know how to read a map. I cant see enough people traveling to and from the bay area and LA every day to justify this project. If someone lives in LA but have a job in San Fransisco they are far enough apart where they will move to San Fransisco.

It is on the fault line? Well all I can say is of course it is. That is just the subsidized cherry on top of the least cost effective California sundae in recent years. It's like Amtrak but the walls of the train are made of Nitroglycerin.

These people are stupid! They are envious of Europe, they emulate them in every way possible and a Bullet train would be their crowning achievement.
Just like Europe, Ca too, is on the verge of bankruptcy suffering an immigrant problem they created.

The only the difference between Europe and California is the buildings are older.

Yep, a somewhat more stable infrastructure in Europe that even the citizens love and maintain.
But...Here in Ca, if it runs on rails, they tag it, if it's a truck, they tag it, a street sign, they tag it, if it's a bridge, they setup a homeless camp under it, call them victims of capitalism and then tag the shit out of the bridge.
If it's a dam? They ignore it for 50 years until we have a catastrophe on the verge of flooding the entire valley. If it's a forest, the CPUC gets in bed with the utility and ignores all the potential hazards, (think Camp Fire), then when people die and thousands of homes are lost, blame the utility.

Welcome to California... :sneaky:

Trump's administration should make sure they freeze all related assets, check that purchase orders are cancelled, and seize all purchased equipment and do an audit. We might get more of the funds back by selling off the equipment - maybe to Europe (ha). I'll bet there have been a few multi-millionares show up out of those funds - be nice to either get some of that money back or put a few in prison. This whole thing just sounds like a bunch of crooks stuffing their pockets in the name of green energy ... again.
