Trump Introduces 25% Tariff on Steel, 10% on Aluminum
« on: March 08, 2018, 12:54:19 PM »
RINO Heads Explode

President Donald Trump on Thursday signed off on deeply contentious trade tariffs, swatting aside warnings of a global trade war and protests from allies in Europe and at home. Trump has approved levies of 25 percent on imported steel and 10 percent on imported aluminum, with the measures coming into effect in 15 days. They will not apply to Canada and Mexico initially, an official said, adding that security and trade partners could negotiate to seek exemption.

Almost 50 years overdue!
What is hilarious is the GOP assholery's repetition of their "Free Trade" mantra.
More later, but simply, the GOP has NEVER, EVER supported free trade;
being totally protectionist since Fremont in 1856!!!!!

He also built some leverage in their for use against Mexico & Canada to get NAFTA working the way it was suppose to. He will let these two off the hook for tariffs if he gets NAFTA the way he wants??? Brilliant move

Yeah, some are against it for reasons of purity, while the majority are against it because of their monied backers' demands.
Kind of tells you where the money actually comes from. Over Seas...

A reflection on the GOP and Free Trade.
In 1789, while the ink was hardly dry on our Constitution, the Federalists (Grandfather of the GOP)
initiated our very first Tariff, a trend that continued aggressively, till Hawley-Smoot in 1930.
During their 70 year political ascendancy from Johnson to Hoover, the GOP was the Party of Protectionism, legalizing many dozens of Tariffs, Duties and Excises over that span.
Their stated purpose was to fund the Government; while buying political loyalty through the shielding of our so called"infant industries."
According to McKinley,"Protectionism was a Law of Nature."
So much for the GOP and its relentless bullshit that they are the party of free trade.
THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN FREE TRADERS; NOT FOR A DAY!!!!!!

Free Trade was always about fairness, (neither party cared about fairness though) that is, until both party's gave US SHAFTA (Shaft Americans), where they allowed their corporate cronies the ability to leave our shores and still claim they were American entities simply by keeping an office here in the US.
Trump's tariffs will bring those businesses back home if they want to keep doing business with and in the US.
I've never been a fan of tariffs, but then, we've never lived under leftist rule before either, so Trump using tariffs is fine this time around if it ends SHAFTA.

Solar, fair enough and a reflection.
My core matter w/Trump involves form more than substance.
However his ability to transform issues is beyond astonishing.

Yep, that was kind of the point I was making. I should have been more clear.
You are correct about the GOP being protectionists, they have always been about business interests, not those that voted for them, this is why they hate the base, they campaign on Conservative ideals, then do the exact opposite, they despise Conservatism, they hate the fact that we Conservatives want to resurrect our Founders ideals.
McStain is the poster child for the Establishment and every Establishment member aligns with the beliefs of that traitor.
Thank God, their days are numbered.

I just saw ben shapiro on crowder and those two hate these tariffs and make the case that the steel industry isnt in need of saving and it wont help jobs because technology has taken so many of them. Also that this wont really hurt china. If this is true then why wld trump do it? Or is this just trump putting things out there to help with trade negotiations? I know shapiro is butthurt about trump winning the primary, so i take him with a grain of salt, but crowder usually knows what he is talking about. Maybe these two are full of shit...

I have been watching this tariff "dance" for a week now and do not understand how so many folks don't get what is going on. In just over a year in office Trump has showed us his MO. He puts something out there knowing that is just his beginning position. He knew from the get go there was going to be carve outs and wanted to see reaction for where his next step will be. Already, we are seeing movement on NAFTA. That was probably his primary goal with a secondary goal of a little more pressure on China left in place. The left will try to label his strategies as "wishy, washy" and that is 180 degrees from actuality. He continues to keep the left off balance.

Exactly Right!!!
This is Trump's MO, everything he does or threatens to do is over the top, scares the shit out of his targets, gets them to the bargaining table, as evidenced by China caving on NK and now they're willing to bargain away their nukes.
Like I said in the past, I don't like tariffs, but I'm willing to let Trump use every tool available to him to accomplish his/our agenda at this point.
One thing about Trump, what he does is in Americas best interests and not the crony Establishment GOP whores/leftists.

China produces Steel far in excess of its domestic needs which it then re-ships to poorer (and compliant) neighbors such as Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Indonesia; among others.
Then for a generous fee they erase the identity of origin of the Steel and trans-ship it to the USA so that China doesn't get caught dumping.
This racket has been going on for some two decades and involves several other commodities.
Talk of China ranking very soon as the world's leading economic power is illiterate media blather.
In Asia, Japan is the ranking economic power and in Europe, it's Germany.
The must have attribute behind success in any innovative activity, whether it be writing music, building a car or any number of things; is the creative impulse.
Given it's 2500 year history of autocratic rule; the Chinese have never fostered such an impulse and its readily apparent in what they produce as well as the low/poor quality of their products.
Their 'expertise' is in copying what better minds have created.

I'm going to take a wild ass guess and say china is scared of a trade war and that's one of the reason the fat little pig from N. K is willing to negotiate. These tariffs may earn President Trump the Nobel peace prize.
