I don't get it, why are the Chinese shooting their Golden Goose?

Martial Law Considered in Hong Kong to Crush Pro-Democracy Protests

Authorities in Hong Kong are considering whether to impose draconian martial law powers in a bid to crush pro-democracy protests.

According to a report in the South China Morning Post, Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor is not ruling out invoking the Emergency Regulations Ordinance for the first time in half a century.

The ordinance would grant the government sweeping powers, including authorizing the entry and search of properties, censoring the media and imposing maximum terms of life imprisonment.

Lawmaker Au Nok-hin warned that imposing emergency powers would lead to the "total destruction" of Hong Kong's capitalist system, while law professor Simon Young of the University of Hong Kong said the ordinance meant "basically a state of martial law."

With the government refusing to meet the five demands of the protesters, which includes withdrawing a bill that would allow suspects in Hong Kong to be extradited to China, escalation seems inevitable.

Beijing still has troops massing nearby, but experts agree that they are unlikely to be deployed inside Hong Kong.

As we previously highlighted, riot police deployed water cannons for the first time during violent demonstrations on Sunday, protesters also being hit with tear gas and rubber bullets.

It is a historical pattern with communism. It cannot hold up under any particle of freedom and eventually it must resort to violence to stay in power.

You'd think they'd want Hong Kong to remain the golden goose of the country. Once they do this, China just sealed its fate of a dying country.

But the same guys will be in power. They can always seek out their buddy Kim to help them ruin their country.

Hongkongers eyeing move to Malaysia amid unrest

Officials caution applicants to My Second Home scheme that a strict vetting process is in place amid concerns that Hongkongers involved in illegal acts could seek refuge abroad
Agents for the programme have reported a rise in interest from the city of 20 to 30 per cent

Hongkongers are "more than welcome" to move to Malaysia through the country's My Second Home programme but must not be "running away from something", officials said on Wednesday amid reports of a spike in interest since the city's anti-government protests took off.
Tourism, arts and culture ministry secretary general Isham Ishak warned that residents of the city must be genuine applicants and pass a stringent vetting process.
"We will do background checks," he told Malaysian state media amid concerns that Hongkongers involved in illegal acts could seek refuge abroad.
The programme aims to attract wealthy foreigners. Lim Kok Sai, president of the Malaysia My Second Home Agents Association, said interest from Hongkongers had shot up by nearly a third "of late".
"We don't have the figures as it takes time to process the applications, and on Hong Kong's side they must apply for a good conduct clearance certificate, but I believe there is about 20 to 30 per cent more interest," Lim said.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump

We are doing very well in our negotiations with China. While I am sure they would love to be dealing with a new administration so they could continue their practice of "ripoff USA"($600 B/year),16 months PLUS is a long time to be hemorrhaging jobs and companies on a long-shot....

Huge news folks.

Hong Kong leader formally withdraws controversial extradition bill

HONG KONG, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam on Wednesday announced the formal withdrawal of a controversial extradition bill that has plunged the Chinese-ruled city into its worst political crisis in decades.

The bill, which would have allowed extraditions to mainland China where courts are controlled by the Communist Party, triggered months of unrest and posed the gravest challenge to Chinese leader Xi Jinping since he came to power in 2012.

Bejing blinked. Don't believe for a moment she made the decision. They are commies and she would have never done this on her own.

Yep.  She's basically a puppet of the CCP.  The CCP can't afford to keep this unrest going.  They have a lot on their plate.

Bingo!!!
She didn't suddenly have a change of heart. I think Trump's mention of the China, Hong Kong debacle sent a solid message to China to back off.
China still thinks they can steal Hong Kong at a later date, but screwing with it right now would end any possibility of a trade agreement.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in Commie HQ as they debate over who will end Xi's life and save the party.

One thing I have found they don't last long when they mess up.  It's not like in the U.S.  They have their own way of term limit and it not retirement.
